That movie about Glenn Gould is awesome, and I think he was definitely AS. He had some OCD too, though...

I don't know what you're talking about. Can you please tell me about that? I'd appreciate it : )

I went to blockbuster online to add the movie to my queue and there were 5 movies for me to choose from, plus a 3 disc collection of Glenn Gould movies. Which one would you recommend I watch? Thank you : )

Oh, I just thought of a good candidate: Simon Tam from Firefly/Serenity.

He's got sweet and lovely Kaylee pratically throwing herself at him for most of the series, but is utterly unable to hook up with her:

"their relationship is prevented from progressing due to Simon's tendency to utter unintentionally irreverent comments at her expense"

Yep, sauced and sealed.

Good fortune,

There was a viral marketing campaign called "Heroes 360" ( http://heroeswiki.com/Portal:Heroes_360 ) based around several websites allegedly belonging to the characters. One of them is http://www.primatechpaper.com , another is Hana's website, http://www.samantha48616e61.com/ . If you read her website, she tells you how to "hack" into the "secret" files on the Primatech Paper site.

There was a whole big complicated way to get the passwords, but the easiest way is to read the instructions on her website. The list of files and their passwords is found in the last entry on this page: http://www.samantha48616e61.com/archive.shtml

Basically, from the Primatech main page ( http://www.primatechpaper.com ), click on "About Us." Hover over the logo on the About Us page and the Symbol will appear (in red, I think). Click on the Symbol and you'll be prompted for a password. Enter username "bennet" and password "claire" (no quotation marks).

From there, if you have the passwords, you can get into some "background files" on the characters that The Company has kidnapped and tagged, including Hana's (also Gabriel Gray aka Sylar, Ted Sprague, and Matt Parkman). Hers includes her psych records from the Israeli army, including a diagnosis of AS.

Hana Gitelman:
File: C3001 Username: bennet Password: HGghx11a

Matt Parkman:
File: C3002 Username: bennet Password: MPggtn75x

Ted Sprague:
File: C3003 Username: bennet Password: TSntz14b

Sylar:
File: C3004 Username: bennet Password: GGeh81zu

I know that's all insanely complicated, but it wasn't my idea. ;-) (BTW I'm having trouble getting it to work from work so I don't know fi the page is still up at all!! But that's how you used to be able to do it.)

While not a movie, but on All in the Family, but do you think it's possible that the character Edith has it? I mean, the character takes things literally all the time, etc.

One of my favorite movies is Contact, written by Carl Sagan. In this book, it says Sagan was an Aspie: http://www.amazon.com/Aspergers-Self-Es ... 1885477856 (Amazon will let you search the book and read the pages).

Jody Foster's character Ellie (Eleanor Arroway):

-- Genius, extremely different logical thinking style.

-- Described early in the movie as obsessive interest in her focus. Early knowledge, high test ratings.

-- The way she processes her father's death with focus on the timing of giving him the pills, detached from the death. Depicted in the scene with the priest/preacher.

-- she is depicted as having a "shutdown" (reverse meltdown) when she is told that her project funding has been canceled on the array and she has only 3 months.

-- In social situations, she does not like smalltalk and only talks about her obsessive interests.

-- When she finds the signal, she has long-winded one-sided conversations with her co-workers to the point one exclaims that he will just let her talk.

-- When explaining prime numbers to the political people, she turns off the TV behind her, doesn't like the noise interfering with her concentration.

-- Strange way of interacting with Drumlin during the video signal processing. she stares blankly.

-- When she talks to her boyfriend at the reception party, she stares constantly. Women with AS tend to do this with men of interest, it was just discussed here the other day on this forum.

-- She logically deals with conflict throughout the movie, not understanding the emotional approach of other humans. Her first visit to the white house, she is overrun by all. Later the religious arguments during the selection of travelers.

-- Described by management and coworkers as an a**hole.

-- Chooses to be alone out in the field as opposed to inside and social with the people.

-- No experience dating really, she has never gotten a nice dress, when she goes to D.C.

-- At the reception cocktail party in D.C., she is outside on the balcony focused on her special interest and not the humans inside.

-- Focus on using sound to listen for signals. Hearing sensitivity.

-- Pushes the man away and never calls him after split.

-- After the discovery, even with all her career experience (it is later in her career timeline), she can't realize business social issues. haden tells her she is dealt out. she says "I didn't realize I was out", he tells her "you have been handed your hat" scene about her social awareness.

-- Blank stares and wierd eye contact. The scene at the party where she first discovers the guy is a priest jumps out. She tends to stare. But she obviously wasn't TRYING to depict AS, but a nerd.

-- It was the intense emotional experience of her first boyfriend that had her think of her father's death. After she stepped outside her cabin this is shown.

-- She has a meltdown and screams at her boss when SETI is canceled.

-- She withdraws at times.

-- She is not socially afraid to approach people for business. Depicted when she wants funding.

-- confrontational discussion. Discussed throughout the film that she is socially very awkward and insensitive to others emotions.

-- Unusual language processing behavior. They literally show a voice transition form Haden to her with a speech when they first decode the schematics. So she directly copies word for word another person's speech instead of reworking her own.

-- "This is nuts", "This doesn't make any sense" and other responses to people's emotional needs for religion. (White House table scene).

-- I'm sure if I focus on situations of her taking things too literally, plenty exist. Such as her calling ALL the press as she considers the message to all the earth.

In the movie, you have to consider she is undiagnosed, unaware. No reference is ever directly made. So she doesn't seem to know of it, hasn't read anything. Nor have any of the people in her life figured it out or been informed.

The character called "Bill Gates" in this movie:

"Pirates of Silicon Valley"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168122/

Trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEyrivrjAuU

The character is probably a bit more dramatic than the real Aspie-billionaire-guy at MS (its hollywood - what do you expect?)

Rick Moranis' character in "Ghostbusters"--the boring accountant who becomes Vinz Clortho the Keymaster. We see him make several social blunders in the party at his apartment, including telling people how much money each couple makes, and not getting Sigourney Weaver's obvious hints that she isn't interested in him. And of course later he monologues about his special interests, Zuul and Gozer. :)

I go for it. She has stilted speech, stares, etc.

She is also extremely loyal to her husband, an Aspie adult trait. And doe she have any friends?

Her daughter is a little weird too ;)

i swear to the moon, IF someday my fiction gets translated, and any of you schmucks begin to diagnose my characters with established disorders - - - im gonna torch the hair off your all heads in your sleep, and snip your eyelids off while im at it.

you guys really should let there remain SOME mystery to the: strange and antisocial antiheroic character :(

It's been talked about before, but not yet mentioned in this particular thread, so John Nash in A Beautiful Mind.
