The studies, people! What about the studies?

Yes, the studies aren't conclusive yet. But by the time they are, people will have been gabbing on these mini-microwaves for years on end!

How can having a cell phone be worth this type of risk???

I've got one, but its very basic by todays standards. It's got no camera, no e-mail, i-pod to annoy everyone else on the bus with. Its just a phone. I only need it for emergencies :?

And don't forget the theorized correlation between widespread cellphone use and beehives' CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder).

I didn't get a cellphone until a few years ago because I never have been (or will be) in the habit of needing to share any inane perception of everyday experiences that pops into my mind. I finally got my cellphone for emergency use on long car trips. Then it occurred to me that I didn't need a land phone line anymore since my cellphone has voicemail and textmail features, so I saved a lot of money on phone bills. And since it's effectively my home phone, I don't give the number to just anyone.

I hate them!
Unfortunately I have to have one for work.

I just hate using the phone in general, I am unable to recognise peoples voices for some reason familia people get upset when I have to ask "who is that speaking" and most of the time the speech is so distorted I am unable to understand it.
I have heard single side band bounced halfway around the planet that is more readable than the average mobile phone sound quality.

I had a trackphone in high school (about 6 years ago) and I have a cell phone I have had for 4 years, very basic, in fact some people comment about how old my phone is, i rairly use it, more to contact my girlfriend, and for emergenys, i dont 'chat' but will have a 10 sec conversation just saying 'hi, how are ya' so my GF does not get mad, then followed by, 'ok, see ya'

[quote="iceb"]I am unable to recognise peoples voices for some reason familia people get upset when I have to ask "who is that speaking" quote]

In my last job I got in SOOOO much trouble for not recognising my CEO's voice! I asked him if he had an account or if he was enquiring!

I also post on a music related forum which has a 'social/random' type discussion board, I posted on there earlier that I hate mobile phones because of the thought that anyone could contact me and force me to be social at any hour of the day or night. I got some pretty pissy reactions along the lines of 'you must really hate your friends'. Also I think some of my friends are really pissed off with me about how much I leave the thing off, no one understands that I don't hate them I just need long periods of time alone.

I don't have one because of the radiation issue. It seems only logical to follow the precautionary principle on this one.

He figures knowing where you are is worth the risk of you getting a brain tumour?

I know a woman who thinks that way about her kid!

I don't think he's even aware of the possible risk...he has pretty severe ADHD so there's no way he could get through those articles that you posted, haha. And we'll definitely never be having children.

But honestly, neither of us values life very much so I don't really care if we get brain tumors and die...it would give me an excellent reason to blow my brains out. And I almost never use my cell phone anyway since I rarely leave the house. I generally use it about once a week for less than 5 minutes. And it's not so much knowing where I am, it's knowing that I'm okay and I can call him if something bad happens. He helps me a lot with my social issues, so I feel better being able to easily call him from anywhere.

I have one, but 99% of the time its switched off. Everyone knows to send me a msg or call the landline.

On the rare occasions i do make a call i figure that im probably resistant to damage as i dont have a lot of MSG, aspartame etc in my system (the blood-brain-barrier may be opened by cellphone radiation, allowing toxins access that would usually be blocked)

I also DONT have DECT cordless phones in the house anymore.

Im told that experiment didnt involve cellphones at all, rather they placed a DECT household phone directly into the hive.

I have a tracfone. I only use it to speak with my bf and his dad, and in case I need an emergency phone while out, but thats it.

I only use mine in emergency. I just got the thing a few weeks ago when I started back in college in case my son's school needs me to come get him, or in case my daughter gets booted out of daycare for something, lol. Other than that, I cannot stand the thing, and I cringe when it rings.

Hey, I swear that this exact situation (only involving the MD) used to happen to me regularly in a job that i did a couple of years back - and it was instrumental in my losing my job :(

Personally I managed to avoid owning a mobile phone until perhaps 3 years ago. I only got it because where I lived didn't have a phone and I was sharing with quite a few others who all had mobiles already and therefore not interested in getting a home phone.

It is rarely turned on, although I am just about coming to terms with texting which i much prefer to talking.

I have a cell phone, but I only carry it for emergencies (there have been none). I rarely get calls on it. I didn't have one for a long time; but a few years ago I was dating someone and she thought it was bizarre that I didn't have one and insisted that I get one so she could reach me. We parted ways, but I kept the cell. I dislike telephones generally because I find it difficult to communicate with people -- I find it hard to know when it is my time to speak, and I usually end up interrupting the other person or talking over him/her. (Of course, I do this in person, too.) I dislike cell phones in particular because these issues are exacerbated by the poor quality of reception/hearing. I also find it incredibly rude when you're out with someone and they are constantly on their cell.

I have one that my parents got me as part of the "Verizon Family Plan," but I only use it when I have to because I find it so difficult to understand people on it. That extra bit of interference on a cell phone, even when you have a good signal, just makes comprehension miserable for me.

This is the reason I'm about the only grad student I know who actually pays for a land-line. It's worth it for me to avoid using my cell phone.

I have one.
I mainly only use to browse the net when off and about or to call family.

I'm not a phone person so I'm not chatty on it. Only use if I have a practical reason to. I probably only have like 7 contacts. I almost never keep it on ring since it's always too loud and jarring. I can hear it go off just fine when it's on vibrate and even that sometimes jars me.

I prefer text messages to actual talking.

Sometimes I play a game where I'll count as many drivers on their phones within a minute. I've estimated that about 35 to 25% of drivers are on the phone at any given time.
I try to not be on the phone while driving as I'm known for missing stuff if I try to talk while driving.
