After the ritual:
"How are you doing :?: ", "I am fine :!: ", you are supposed to continue with "How are you :?: ", which I think is a little hypocrite in cases this doesn´t interest you.

I discovered this only lately :o

I used to answer the question with something like "Not so good :cry: " or "Don´t ask :oops: ", but that doesn´t seem to be the right continuation.

I wonder if it's related to the problem that periodically marks all of the threads as up-to-date so that all the icons change to the "no new messages" state.
Maybe you have a bad cron job?
