Personally I doubt that she's an Aspie. Too normal for me.

If you watch little bits of the other models' interviews, you'll see she acts/talks/stares a lot differently from them.

I hope she wins! I think that would be fabulous. She's is most definitely an aspie and she should be interesting to watch. I used to have that same hunched-over walk, until I made it a point to change my posture through tons of yoga and Pilates. However, I still have the quirky facial and hand gestures...and still talk REALLY loud and animated (just like her).
BTW, has anyone seen the show 'Flipping Out' on Bravo? I am almost positive that Jeff Lewis is an undiagnosed aspie!

I think it's interesting that people on this site are "bashing" her for not being "aspie" enough. Autism is a spectrum disorder. We're all very different from each other and no two people are going to have EXACTLY the same traits. That's what makes it fun! She was diagnosed with Aspergers as a child so I'd say it's pretty definite that she has it. Just from watching the show with her interaction with others I can see it.

Lonermutant... I'd ask you to define what "normal" is. In my opinion, there is no such thing as normal.

I believe that you should only get the Asperger diagnosis when you are pretty low-functioning.

Even as aspie who is "high functioning" still has a lot of issues to deal with.

Wonder if this girl went to a expensive private school where they probably have a much better program for students with social difficulties than a public school.
Also, it would be interesting to know exactly what she's studying or working as.

She's pretty and seems well spoken. I hope she wins. It's nice to see another Aspie doing well.

I will watch this season's ANTM to see how Heather works though as a contestant.

(She has a name, you know. . it's Heather and she has a mind and feelings as well as a skinny body, but no one was seeing her as a person first and her body type and what Syndrome she has been diagnosed with second.)

just sayin'

I finally got to see the re-run of the first episode. She's great, such a sweet person! And she looks just wonderful. I have a feeling she's going to do well.

I read about this on another board, and of course came here to see if it was being discussed . I just looked at the video, and true, she doesn't look aspie in the heavily edited "interview" clip, but if you find the bonus videos, there is an extra "heather" video and she looks extremely awkward in it, definitely aspie looking. It looks like she has figured out how to carry herself when concentrating on it but when she gets nervous she "sinks." Is Asperger's really pronounced Ahhhhsperger's? I always thought it was "a" as in "man."

I notice Tyra pronounced it with a broader a than Heather did. I don't mind they want to avoid the 'ass burgers' reference by prouncing it differently.

Yeah, I think it should sound something like "ahz" with the German closed "a" sound. Americans pronounce it like "ass" which is funny but incorrect. Sounds like Heather gave it to much of an "o" sound.

I'll have to find those bonus clips of her and watch them. She looked and sounded really polished in the formal interview, although I could still tell that she was struggling some. I think she's great.

This is the first time I've ever watched ANTM, even though haute couture was an adolescent fixation of mine. Have any of the prior winners ever gone on to do European runway work? She has the potential, as long as she can get the walking down.

Notice how when the panel mentions her calling them "ladies" her hands go straight to the head. Classic.

Her voice is much different when talking about herself than when she is "putting on a show" like in the other video, and when talking to the panel. I do that too, I sound very different in normal conversation than when I'm conscious of myself and putting in an effort to sound enthusiastic.

I'm suspicious of the editing process, though. When mentioning Aspergers they show a shot of her looking distant and dead-eyed, but she might have been listening to the panel giving instructions or something, and the sound was cut out. I don't trust TV people, they can edit the video to show a given circumstance in the way they want it.

Still, it's cool to see her. I hope she does well.

I noticed the editing, too. When they mentioned "autism," they immediately cut to a shot of her looking spaced-out, lol. Quite predictable! :?

It is very, very cool to watch her - I think she's going to do great.

I hope she goes pretty far, and it would be nice if she wins. This is a good thing that she's on the show as she's showing that not all Aspies are homocidal maniacs.
