Yes, the hospital's policy was that a nurse had to watch you take your meds. They even knew how to spot tricks like holding the pill under your tongue and pretending to swallow. I've also heard of doctors being paid to perscribe certain drugs. I'm not sure this was the case here because valium is such an old drug. I've gotten the impression they tend to do that with newer drugs that they're promoting. I think the doctor just wanted to shut me up. Or maybe my voice did sound "anxious"--forced and shaky (perhaps because I had pneumonia in both lungs?!).
There were actually a lot of things I could have sued over at that hospital, but I was nearly broke and couldn't work, so there was no way I could afford a lawyer. I had been so sick, I was just happy to be alive and returning to good health. But maybe I should have done something about it, at least on behalf of all the patients who were too sick to get the chance to complain.
