Having irrational fears/problems/worries in new situations
I used to have a friend who was great in situations like this. He understood that I had these irrational fears and made me face them. He'd do it not by saying "you have to do this!" but by putting me in a position where I had to, whilst still being nearby should I really get into difficulty. It was just so helpful.
He eventually got a job in another town and got married. Initially I was a bit lost but found that I was alot better then I had been previously.
As for falling over on the bus, I fell over whilst carrying a big bag of shopping once. I was on the top deck and it was Saturday so there were a lot of kids on there. I realy just wanted to die at that point. The other time I fell off a bus becuase the pavement was uneven. I fell right infront of a group of schoolkids and again, I just wanted to die. Although my ankle was a bit twisted I still managed to run.
Having said all this though I have forced myself to use trains and busses. It's much much easier now and my fear of missing a stop on trains is not as bad as it used to be since I was told you could just wait for another train and go back without having to pay. The London underground still scares the poo out of me though.
