I couldn't imagine living anywhere else other than where I live now. I have everything I need here: my job, my home, family and pets.

One reason that this idea appeals to me so much because of my experiences at the autistic spectrum retreats that are held once a year on the Oregon coast. It's like autistic woodstock. Everything is eccentric and fun. There are meltdowns and awkward moments but they don't become secondary meltdowns from the meltdowns or secondary awkward moments. You might feel stupid for not being normal enough for a moment but then you see that everyone is cool about the diviersity.

There's a lot of music and stimming. There are rock concerts in the lodge and you can't tell who the spectrum people are and who the NT's are. The retreats bring out the NT's secret autistic selves who always wanted to stim on life. There are ideas shared and bonds made. I love being around so many people and not cringing because of my daughter's weirdness or my own weirdness.

exactly. Israel is a good example of how a state founded for a specific group of people can work.

I think the question where to found it is a tough one to answer though. Maybe the UN should get involved and allocate a specific territory. I think the existance of an autistic homeland is more important than where it exists though.

When higher powers arbitrarily reallocate land, it creates a lot of resentment even from those completely unaffected.

Probably the best method would be the Discworld Golems approach - working collectively to earn money to buy more golems to work collectively ad infinitum (or, in this case, land). Obviously you'd need to get the OK from the UN or somesuch body anyway, but if you bought the land before it became public knowledge you intended to create your own republic and had prior approval from related governments, things would go a lot more smoothly.

Realistically though, founding it would be a heck of a lot easier than running it, and I don't believe it could work in an ethical manner. There simply wouldnt be a wide enough base of abilities, as too high a percentage of autistics are purely cerebral in talents.

Perhaps, as a first step, an AS community be established. This would need quite a bit of government/dministration which would test whether people with AS can manage to run a community without the help of NTs. Personally, I don't see why they can't ! !

All we need now is a rich benefactor to donate large piece of land or island.
