I'm eligible to join (1450 pre-nerf SAT is an auto-join)

But I've never pursued it.

I dunno..... I actually heard it was a bit of a meat market.....

I have no idea how true that is, or how a meat market for geniuses would work.....

But I wasn't interested.

I had an I.Q. test at nine-years old when I was put in the phyc hospital. I did not know what it was at time time and just did whatever they told me so they would send me home (I still have nightmares about being there). I recently found some papers about me at a younger age, school records, phycologists reports, hospital records. In there was the result of an I.Q. test I had in the hopsital. The result was 74. I could never get into MENSA. Even if I could I wouldn't even apply. No one there would want to listen to me monolouge about animals and look at my meerkat art. I'll save my inteligence for when I do lectures for veternarians.

I am as curious as the OP and am interested in what you said julie.

Is it as elitist as I fear it is? I don't want to be a part of that, if so.

Depends on the chapter, and how you behave. The chapter I was in was unfriendly to youths (and I was even more of a jerk back then as I am now), so as soon as I had the opportunity, I removed my name from all their rosters and never went back.

I would like to ask how much it costs to join Mensa and are there subsequent yearly dues? if so, how much would they be for the United states?

When discussing Mensa, I have asked quite a few people this, but they don't seem to know. If anyone here knows, I'd really appreciate it if you could please let me know.

Thanks!

L

I have not attended a meeting in at least four years, although I maintain membership. During thirteen years of continuous membership, I have attended less than eight meetings.
I find social events to be generally uncomfortable. However, I have nothing negative to say about the meetings I have attended, or the people who were gathered there.
Mensa has Special Interest Groups (SIGs), whereby members may join sub-groups specific to their interests. There is a SIG for Aspies, which I also belong to. Emails exchanged by Mensan Aspies address a broad spectrum of issues connected with Aspergers Syndrome, and autism in general.
The fee for joining Mensa is simply the first years dues. There are annual dues for continued membership. For complete membership information, simply go to the Mensa website:

I have the IQ to join MENSA, but it's way to expensive, so if you're rich, yeah, suppose so.
