I strongly dislike being jammed in with a bunch of people. This is one of the reasons I avoid elevators (the other being to take advantage of exercise from stair climbing), and also one of the main reasons I don't fly (though there are several others), and also why I avoid movie theaters. I generally loathe meetings at work if they involve many people, because we all have to jam in around a conference table. But, I've developed a quirky way of keeping my distance without putting people off (I hope? Well, I really don't care...) I bring a green squishy (stress) ball to the meeting with me, take one of the chairs and scoot it away from the table into the corner, and then lean back and throw the ball up into the air and catch it repeatedly, or sometimes bounce it off the wall. This has the double advantage of helping me avoid having to make "small talk".
Good fortune,
- Icarus hates the accidental footsie game...
