Very good post sleepless168.
I suppose you could say that NT's gain the "ability" to judge a book by its cover, better than we can.
As for the parallel between AS and being gay, I often think about this. It's a very good example, as both forms of discrimination are based on a lack of understanding and fear of those that don't think in the same way.
Of course we have an advantage as ignorant people might just think someone with AS is "ret*d" where as they might think gays are evil!
AS/AUTISTIC discrimination is based mostly on a lack of understanding. There IS always the fact that SOME of the worst things known about autism could apply. I am usually level headed, non emotional, etc... I once almost quit, and made a fuss, because my company did something behind my back. They were walking on eggshells for MONTHS! Their actions DID hurt the customer, and may have cost them business, so I WAS right, but STILL... Apparently such actions are more common with autistics. BTW they were on eggshells because they respect me all the same.
I don't know how you could say homosexual discrimination is based on a lack of understanding. FRANKLY, I haven't seen many come up with anything *I* thought was artistic, etc... These days it seems like many claiming to be are trying to make everything like the dodah parade. Just look at tyras ANTM show! And some act/seem in a way that some wouldn't want in the public eye.
As for judging a book by its cover, I WISH you could. I have passed up some books because of the cover, and found they were good. I looked at others, and found that the book didn't live up to the cover. Frankly, the later is more common. TODAY, when I go to buy a book, etc... I SCAN a lot of books to decide. BTW I REALIZE that this doesn't just mean books, but it IS an apt analogy in any case!
