Saw it and loved it. It was absolutely fascinating to see that woman portrayed as so human, to see how step by step the killings went from self-defense to far beyond. It shows the degree to which circumstances can make a thing seem right, even if by objective standards it's seriously wrong.

One line really struck me, from an interview with the real woman the movie character was based on. "The thing nobody ever realized about me was that I had trained myself to be able to do anything."

D***... a little further down a different path, and I might have been saying that myself.

FYI, the movie was touched up for Hollywood. Aileen Wuornos IRL was a lot less of a "victim" than the movie showed her. Her first murder was not how it was portrayed in the movie. Find a book on her and you'll see what I mean.

She was vindictive-- not to mention pretty damn insane. Her cognitive capabilities in the movie were WAY overdone.

Severe alcoholic, Borderline, and just plain PSYCHO...

I was under the impression that she made up being a victim off of the people she murdered to get off with a lighter sentance.

Yeah, her first murder was not for self-protection. But I did like the movie anyways. :D

What just blows my mind is if you see a picture of Charlese Theron dressed up like she normally looks after you have seen 'Monster' - it is just amazing how good they did with her make up . . .

I've been trying to find an interview with Wurnos - I have my TiVo set up to record the show 'Notorious' because they have a picture of her on the intro . . . well, plus there are all sorts of other interesting bios on 'Notorious' - though lately they have been stuck on crime bosses, in which I have no interest . . .

What I think is the most interesting about cults and serial killers is how normal they are - most people expect some sort of drooling maniac with a ski mask and an axe - while I think the truth is vastly scarier . . .

Yeah, no kidding. Personally I was happy just to see an actress done up to look like an average-looking person instead of some kind of runway model.

There's a whole documentary on Wuornos. Can't recall the name of it though. Came out right after the movie. Google would know.

I've been on the Ripper casebook site today, and watched some documentaries. Looked through all the suspects and my own conclusions point to a man called Aaron Kosminski, a Polish Jew. Some of the docs I watched picked him out too, although a guy called Tumblety was another favourite.
1. The famous chalk writing on the wall found next to the bloody apron reads: "The Juwes are the men That Will not be Blamed for nothing". I took this to mean 'the Jews get the blame for everything, but this time it's true.' i.e Jack was venting his speen saying he is a Jew.
2. The best eye-witness account of the murders occured when Elizabeth Stride was murdered. A man called Israel Schwartz saw a man knock Stride to the ground, he saw the man, but mysteriously another man was also watching from the across the road. He felt scared and walked away followed by the other 'witness', was he being followed or was the other man frightened aswell? Anyhow, Stride's body was found in the same spot 15 minutes later and Schwartz identified Kosminski as the man who was with Stride, however he wouldn't testify because Kosminski was a fellow Jew.
3. The murders stopped suddenly, which only makes sense if Jack either a) Died, b) was locked away for something else, or c) fled the country to kill elsewhere. Kosminski was put in an insane asylum not long after the murders stopped.
4. He lived right smack bang in the middle of all the murder scenes, which modern forensics say is common in serial killings.
