I know there is alot of talk of medication on here but is there anyone else here other than me who dosen't take any form of medication

I have never had medication in my life unless its antibiotics which everyone takes when they have some sort of virus but I have only been close to having medication then by the time I give it to medication I tend to feel better even the psychiatrist told me I'm not severe enough to take any medication when it comes to my AS.

Antibiotics do NOT work against viruses!! !

For AS, I am nt taking any medicine.

I'm on a thyroid replacement hormone, but haven't been on a psychiatric medication for years. They had me on a bunch of different junk at a few points as a teenager. I was on something for my OCD symptoms but I don' t think it helped at all, and nothing changed when I quit it. I was also put on prozac and maybe something else at some point. Prozac had the reverse effect on me-I got depressed and slept all the time for the few weeks I was on it (I just quit it because I could tell it wasn't doing anything good).

I think they had me on some psychotic thing for a while when I was 14 though-hope that didn't screw me up any. After my dad left I ended up in a psyc hospital for a week, and they put me on that garbage (apparently I wasn't supposed to be upset about being locked up  ). I don't think I'm ever going to forgive my mom or especially society at large for that experience. Sick freaks who would do that.

Good point. I don't do any of those either...well, not much caffeine anyway.

I've taken tylenol for migraines. I hate prescription strength pain killers so I don't take them. They make me dizzy.

Tried ambien for a month. Stopped because by the end of the week, I became tolerant.

Have never taken anything for phobia problems but might very soon although now I'm having second thoughts. It might help but if it doesn't, that would suck and having to up the dosage and some people have told me that they have to ween themselves off. It just doesn't sound good in the long run so why bother?

I take iron pills because of my anemia and luteine pills because of my problems with endometrium.

On the other hand, we tried my son on Risperdol and he is doing very well. Tamps down those nasty aggressive tendencies and helps to relieve some of the anxieties in dealing with social situations. Stops some of the stimming as well. He seems to think it's a good thing. I told him he didn't have to take it at all. Right now, in our current situation, he says it's the only thing that keeps him from making his dad wake up dead, so I guess that's a good thing, right?

I take Risperdol (Risperidone). Funny thing, one of the main effects it has on me is that it makes me more able to tolerate my dad...

Other than that, it stops me from feeling like the whole world is collapsing around me, so it is pretty good stuff.

Nothing prescribed, but I have been on anti-depressants, sleeping pills and beta blockers several years ago.

I do enjoy a wee dram - does that count? :D

I'm not on any medication whatsoever, despite doctors attempts to try and put me on something to solve problems that don't exist in my life.

I'm assuming the question pertains to psych medications. I don't take any psych meds other than once took 3-4 weeks of Celexia because the dr swore it would stop PMS. I do take prescriptions for hypothyroid, arthritis, asthma and a heart valve defect. Oh and also stuff for Lyme disease, but hopefully I will be well soon and able to quit those meds.

The doctor always gives you antibiotics for some sort of viral condition like flu ear infection anything like that I don't know about you but that is what the doctor always gives me.

No prescrip. meds for AS or moods. I do find that melatonin helps me a lot with my AS. The intensity of my problems increase when I do not get enough sleep and I have a slight melatonin imbalance.

I have pernicious anemia and get b12 shots and use sublingual b12 to help keep my levels up.

I take Astelin and Flonase for allergies and Welchol for Cholesterol.

I spent some time on Paxil and Trazadone for depression after I wound up in a ward. The side effects were not pleasant, but they helped me long enough that I could get a grip on my depression and learn some coping skills.

Doctors give antibiotics for ear infections because those are BACTERIAL infections. The flu is a virus, however it can lower one's immunity to getting secondary infections such as the ear infection which is bacterial. Antibiotics can kill only bacteria, not viruses.

If a person truly has only a virus and is being given antibiotics for it then the doctor is guilty of malpractice.

Never and not now - using herbal stuff. I wonder about using small doses of prozac or ritalin

I take medications. Everything you digest changes you to varying degrees, including drugs, coffee, sugar, and even carrots. There's no such thing as the "real you." Drugs merely change the balance of already existing chemicals in your brain. These chemicals also change depending on how much you exercise, how long you sleep, how old you are, etc.

I take a load of stuff for my lung disease, but concerning AS-related stuff, I've just been on anti-depressants a few years ago. When I get depressed I have this huge debate with myself over whether to ask for help from the doctor or not. I usually give myself a month to get over the worst of it and so far that's always been enough.
I've also wondered about anxiety drugs but my Mum ended up really dependent on hers and had to wean herself off.
