Somehow it rubs me the wrong way. I don't like it. I want to be looked up to for my abilities and talents. Having people simply feeling sorry for you. I don't think so. From what I picked up on the thread about Autism Speaks this is part of the reason a lot of posters feel this way about Autism Speaks. Just my opinion.

I'd like to hear more about the people who feel sorry for you. Why do they do that? How many of them are there? And do they feel sorry for you because they know you have AS? If so, how do they know? And finally, what makes you think that anyone feels sorry for you? Does anyone tell you that?
To answer your question, I wouldn't like it at all to have anyone feel sorry for me. Why should they?

No one in particular that I know of feels sorry for me. It was a subject that I simply brought up.

Colour me intrigued. This looks so musical on the page, and now I'm wondering whether your spoken voice sounds anything like this.

People, this is what comes of having linguistics as your major at uni.

I get annoyed when people feel sorry for me, and act patronising and so forth, but there are also times when I crave the reassuring hug, the "There, dear, it'll be right" and the cuppa with freshly-baked biscuits. It's all to do with what's happening in the moment.

No one ever felt sorry for me. They were too busy teasing me. And now that I'm older, I don't really care anyway.

I don't like it when people patronise me, but that is different to being empathetic or feeling sorry for me.

I wouldn't mind if people felt sorry for me in light of some unfortunate incident, and I would hope they would appreciate any concern I showed to them if the situation were reversed.

(Hope this made sense)

Very few people feel sorry for me. Doesn't really bother me but it's unessessary to have it.

Yes. It would make me feel like a failure.

I do not brook pity well; consequently, I strive to provide people with nothing about me to pity.

I don't mind compassion though.

Good fortune,

I stopped caring what other people thought about me around 2.5 years ago.

If someone was to honestly come up to me and say "I feel sorry for you" I would tell them to pike off.

On the one hand, people feeling sorry for me (when I need it) makes me feel good. Makes me feel like they care.

But on the other other hand, any attention whatsoever makes me feel uneasy.

I made a video about autism featuring my daughter. My mother said she watched it and she cried.

That pissed me off.

I don't need anyone feeling sorry, nor does my child. Why would you cry? It's autism, not a death sentence. And I'm incredibly uncomfortable with people's displays of emotion anyhow.

We need a puking emoticon...

When I was a little kid I hated it when people felt sorry for me. I would never tell anyone if I was physically hurt, even if I was in intense pain. I just waited for the pain to pass. I didn't want people to see me as pathetic or depressing or unable to handle things or letting things get to me. I would also never cry around other kids or teachers, for the same reason. :)

I do not like or need pity, especially if it has to do with my disorders.

I detest pity... I hope no one feels that for me... but some might... knowing just what's happened to me. I'm beginning to feel pathetic.
