Paper and metal. I can handle them if absolutely necessary, but it's a struggle for me and sends me instantly into sensory overload. Some types of unfinished wood have the same effect (walking on unfinished or old decks/porches, for example). I keep a good supply of plastic utensils in my home and if people can't eat without scraping their teeth on the metal utensils - they can eat from the plastic ones too. I just absolutely cannot deal with it.
Recently I had a third molar extracted. I got quite flustered, and the oral surgeon assured me I was numb enough. I explained it was the fear of the sound of metal-against-tooth that unnerved me, and by comparison the pain didn't occur to me. Fortunately I heard nothing at all. He's pretty good. But where most people are terrified of the dentist for fear of pain, I am terrified of the metal touching me or my teeth.
Okay, need to switch topics now, already rocking.
i thought this was just me! i can not bear the noise of metal on metal or metal on teeth. i try to explain to people why i am rocking at the dinner table etc because they are making a noise that is unbearable to me! unfortunatly no one seems to understand why i hate it so much so dont stop biting their fork. why is it necessary to bite the fork in the first place! i dont so why do they! it makes me wonder if anyone else can hear the noise of the teeth touching the fork as no one else is bothered by it & i do have hypersensitive hearing. if i ever get myown house i think i will get plastic culterly as well. luckily i have never had to have any dental work, i dont know what would happen if i did. i also get a bad taste in my mouth when i hear metal touching metal or even i i just think about it.
