I wish I could just cut out the aspie part and be normal.
But then, what else would I lose?

It's just not something you can cure. It isn't a disease, it's how your brain is wired. Until they can reprogram brains (and that will be a scary day indeed), it won't happen.
I wish I could try being NT, But I really think of it as an alternative thing rather than a disability. So I wouldn't really support a cure.

I just realised another unique advantage we have over the NT's...

We can learn from them to try to get the best of both worlds. Hardly any of them learn from us and so they can't have that. Most NT's don't know what we are, or know that there's something to learn from how we think.

Poor NT's. :D

not even that would work... to get rid of autism you would have to rip out your brain, brainstem, spinal cord, nerves, entire nervous system and replace it... IMPOSSIBLE

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

A cure for AS/AD will probably be a product of a treatment for another disease, something that can repair certain anatomical structures of the brain, promote cell growth and all that magical stuff; "higher" areas.

Curing brain damage is always a good thing, it won't take away your "personality" and conscious; it'll allow you to understand verbal/non-verbal communication, emotions, others; allow you to do more stuff other than your narrow/focused interests, take away motor difficulties, the extreme sensitivity to the environment and what have you. You'll be able to do more stuff, like if the same "cure" was applied to any and all neurological conditions (see: multiple sclerosis).

You will always be you, your personality isn't a part of the AS/AD.

STILL.. FORGET IT... I DONT WANT THE CURE... DONT RESEARCH IT... DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT...

There ARE dangerous, medical like cures being put into practice. A shot for murcury poisoning just because a child has Aspergers is one example. I'm all for the intervention of children taking classes and such to improove their skills. I don't call it a cure because it's not 'cureing' anything. It's just helping children learn.

Brain damage can only be a bad thing, and I will never take any drugs that damage the brain. My brain has been through enough repeated trama as it is! I go against any 'cure' that damages the body! Now yes indeed. We can all benifit with less of the human sorts who think harmful drugs are the only way to go. It's flat out ignorant, if you ask me. The people that think the world would be better off without people unlike them? Those clearly don't get it do they?

Let's say we have a society of nothing but the Neuro typical types, and no one else. Everything is primarily chatter based, like it is now. Their image would matter alot to them, just like now. ...

As far as I know, many on the spectrum can benifit from gaining social knowledge. I also agree that some Nuero typicals can benifit from our knowledge of things to. Unfortunatly, we are all dealing with a Nt vrs. Aspie/ aspie vrs. NT void.

That's for people to decide. Whether you want it or not is moot compared to everyone else who has AS/AD.

The pro/anti-cure thingy is filled with far too much subjective and personal biases; I get a good laugh out of parents who say they don't want their autistic child any other way, it's as if the child doesn't have a voice. Then you have the other side of the coin, where people with the disorder who have a voice say they don't want research for a cure as they don't want it; what about those who do?

The choice is ours to make, not "yours" ("yours" equating to an individual choice).

legally no one can force an induvidual to be cured... doesent mean i dont want it available for other people to get cured if they want to but i dont want it...

I don't think we have, an auditory processing disorder. I think that was a misunderstanding of Asperger's having a problem with working memory.

I have been tested, extentisively. When I was a child, that is what they thought. But in reality, I just cannot hold information long enough when functioning.

Aspie memory I believe works like this: very poor

Short term memorty: Below average to slightly above average

Long Term Memory, far above average.

Best,

Idaho Aspie
