I've got WP linked on my blog. And I average about 20-30 hits per day (had as many as 52, once); which is pretty good since I just started my blog like 3 weeks ago.

But I'll do my bit too. I like writing letters. :)

The Today Show was easy to contact.

For the Early Show on CBS, I went to http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/earlysh ... 0202.shtml
and went to the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.

For CNN, I wound up at http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11b.html?2 for the feedback form.

ABC wants a letter by snail mail or submission from an affiliate, so I emailed our local ABC affiliate.

I MIGHT "know a guy who knows a guy ..." And I DO KNOW a lady(REALLY well) who hosts a radio talk program (it's political a little if I remember correctly and shes down on Bush and his agenda as a rule) here in Anchorage who's sister works w/ the disabled, and she actually is who got me turned in the right directions for getting my daughter therapy and her grants for her vestibular and sensory imput "toys"
The "Guy" I might know is a little trickier. O.K. where I work there is this VERY sweet older couple who come in named the "Tobins" or "Tobens" not sure of the spelling. Anyway, very distinguished, kind , down-to-earth couple. He always has people dining w/ him that you know are "somebody" (you know what I mean, :D ) Somebody told me once he used to be a big-time journalist for a paper in DC or NY or something. I can't remember, cause to me everyone gets treated the same, I don't care who you are. Anyway, when I go to work tomorrow, I'll ask around and see what I can find out. However, I HAVE absolutly NO idea as to how to approach him for what you want, so once I find out who he is you'll have to sorta (this sounds bad but its true) "coach me" on what you want said.
I hope I can help you as I do LOVE WP, One of my very first threads was "If Everyone..." (If everyone gave ONE DOLLAR you's be able to run the site and have some money left over.) It died REALLY quickly as I recall :D I did however donate $15.00 I know it's not much but at least it's something.
I'll talk to Shannon, (the lady with the radio show) and see if she bites. If you want me to that is.

Hmm.

I run one of the DJ hours at my college, I don't know what I could do, but I could do something.

http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/asc/kfoxradio/

I'm DJ Ninja, Host of the Hour of Ninja, Wednesdays 8-9 pm.

so, if you wanna tune in and listen, you can. I may shout out to a random member. I won't be doing this til after the holidays as tomorrow is my last broadcast and I have two guest artists.

Anyhow. I'll see what I can do.

There's a mention up on mercola.com now... one of the biggest alternative health sites on the net. :)

Autism Speaks is bad enough, but they are tame compared to some of the strange stuff out there. I recently ran into a website which claimed that the ASDs are part of an illuminati plot by extraterrestrials. lol.

Well, I don't blog (other than my informal rants here) and I don't have a lot of time to be petitioning, so I hope you don't mind that I just went ahead and took the paypal option :)

Everyone who can should spread the word - it's free and it *works*!

For those of us with the means, I urge you to take a moment and ask yourself what this place is really worth to you. Heck, PBS raises millions with their annual on-air drives. If just 1% of everyone who subscribes to WP were to donate $25, that would cover the cost of hosting for a year at the present levels. In PBS terms, that's less than 15 cents a day to insure your continued access to the only large-scale-non-political gathering place for people with AS on the net. OK, who here *can't* spare 15 cents a day...

For the career-focused - a single corporate sponsor could cover the cost of a new server or two, for about what it costs to have an executive lunch. Sometimes companies are willing to make nominal donations to causes championed by employees regardless of "tax exempt" status.

And, perhaps someone with an understanding of tax laws and non-profit organizations could help WP to become a formal non-profit - any takers?

Just a suggestion or three, but I feel very strongly that this is a good and noble effort, and I have nothing but admiration for Alex and the success of WP.

Things that are good are worth keeping.

Nick

Hi Alex!

I think you should make WP a non-profit organization, similar to the way the SETI@home program is done. I've posted its donation page link as an example, as well as the results of the 2006-2007 (partial-year) donation funding campaign. I believe that giving an acknowledgment, such as a star beside the member's name would be nice, as well. And perhaps a starting level of $10, rather than $15?

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_donate.php

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_th ... p?id=43960

The numbers are yummy. Of course, feel free to remove the links, if you feel they're not appropriate here.

All the best,

YC

P.S. 'Tis a worthy cause with participation by many aspies, perhaps a cross-pollination effect?

Yep, I did, too ($50), and I hope others do the same.

P.S. It said that my order will be shipped to my address. I am looking forward to receiving my Wrong Planet coffee mug and Wrong Planet hair brush <just kidding>.

I just fairly recently but donated last month and was planning on this month also... alas car troubles make that impossible this month.

BUT! I'm good friends with some Con organizers. I'll see perhaps about maybe a panel at an upcoming con about ASD and AS and plug the site through that. Of course that would mean speakers on the subject.

*gears in the head start grinding*

I'll see what I can do.
