When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I like physical contact but it must be someone close to my life...

I strongly dislike being touched. While I don't mind greeting very close family (the family I see the most, not random strangers I happen to be related to) with the hugs they expect from everyone, I hate it when people invade my personal space... it just makes me think they're trying to slip something bad onto my person or assassinate me.

Sometimes I'll seek out hugs, but on rare occasions; I'd rather people didn't take them for granted. Does anyone else feel unable to hug for a prolonged period of time? I can't hug for more than about 6 seconds without starting to wish I could pull away and say "I'm done," no matter what the situation.

The only person I can say I've felt an overwhelming urge to hug or cuddle is my son, who is almost 4. I hug and cuddle him as much as possible. He might be AS.

I also have a 5 year old daughter who is nearly a duplicate of me, and I suspect she might be HFA rather than AS - she had a significant language/cognitive delay. I do not get these urges with her at all Image It makes me feel guilty. I'm not sure why the difference is there but I suspect it has something to do with the fact that he is male and so easy to love.

Other than that, don't touch me and keep your distance.
