How Old Do You Feel?

At one job I was working, there was this big pond in the back of the building stocked with koi fish (they eat anything), turtles, ducks, a whole family of geese and all kind of critters scampering around. To me, that place was like heaven and I was like a five-year old, feeding the animals during break. If toys, stuffed animals, cartoons, Playstation are involved, I turn into a little kid. In fact, most of the time, unless I'm in a professional situation, I'm more 10-year old than 30-year-old. I notice little things most adults take for granted and get excited over seeing a butterfly or a squirrel walking across the telephone line in my backyard.

Paradoxily, I've always been wise beyond my years, having insight it takes most people 40 or 50 years to have. Even in childhood, I knew what was best for my well being better than my parents, thereby having to fight for my right to live in an environment that wasn't dis-functional like the one I was being raised. And intellectually, I'm on par with those much older, holding more interesting conversations with my grandparents than I could with other 30-year-olds.

I don't have that "worldly brass" that typifies women my age, wearing the high heels, make-up, sophisticated outfits and such. I'd rather wear sandles, comfortable clothes, go lay in the field in the park on my blanket reading and listening to music. I hate bars and clubs because I can't see what's so fun about them. Sometimes, this is a turn-off to people as they assume since I don't look the part, I must not be very intellegent or have mental issues.

Check it out! I'm not alone! I act and feel like a two year old quite often, but when I look at the stuff I have been through, I feel older than the mountains...

Not trying to brag about being mature or anything, but I think the nature of AS is that a lot of people have to go through some rather hellish stuff before they are ready...

It depends on my mood.When I'm in my "mania" (happy) mood,I feel like I'm 10 years old,excpet that I'm all powerful or something.When I'm in my depressed mood I feel 100.

The age I feel seems to change daily.

Really depends on my mood. Sometimes as young as 11 or 12 years old, sometimes as old as 30. My friends tend to be fairly close to my age, only a bit mature. Right now, I feel about 15 or 16.

Mentally I have always felt much older. It wasn't until I was around 30 that I had a friend younger than me.

Physically I have always felt much younger. I'm 33 and can easily pass for a 16 or 17 year-old, at least based on sight alone... and I'm not short at 5'11". Once I start talking or interacting with people they move my age up the 19-25 range or so. I still get carded when I buy cigarettes for other people (which you need to be 18? ; I don't smoke, blech).

In some ways, I feel very old for my age; in other ways, I feel childishly young. I have sometimes jokingly referred to myself as the world's youngest grumpy old man; I can be quite jaded and blasé; I also complain more than I should. In terms of external behavior, I act rather childish sometimes but usually not out in public. My mom has frequently asked me why I don't act my age; she thinks I am a perpetual seven year old in many ways.

In some ways, I'm pretty wise—or at least I like to think I am—despite my occasional childishness. Part of that is feeling no sanctity for entrenched customs; I am outside the normal group by far and so can easily point out its drawbacks and inconsistencies.

I have no reverence for traditional authority figures: religious figures, the president and other political leaders, etc. I consider everyone to be my equals: neither inferior nor superior. At the same time, I recognize people's abilities and preferences are not the same. Thus, I cut right past the bull that most NTs seem to be knee deep in. Sometimes I am compelled to recognize some sort of superiority of position by, for example, a professor or boss. This is only to get a paycheck or good grade. In reality, I do not truly respect people above the norm unless they earn it through competence, generosity, kindness, decisiveness, etc.
