I am pretty sure I have dyscalculea.

Any time i am in a small group at a restauraunt...like me and my parents...and the host asks us how many, I Reeely have to think about it.

I always did deplorably at math....maybe if I had a special tolerant education things would have been different.

I do have uncanny dominoes skills...and that is sort of a counting game...some mysterious part of my brain kicks in when I play that game...

..and I respect math...but I totally suck at it...academicly

No, mathematics does NOT fascinate me.

I have never been good at it and there fore just haven't tried to improve.

If I do try, I get upset because I can't do it. The annoying thing is, the career that I would like to do in the future has a lot to do with mathematics. I am going to have to abandon that dream...

I think if I were good at math, I would enjoy it. As several people have described there...they like the patterns in math and enjoy solving things using logical solutions...
I do enjoy that now...but just not with math.

Despite the fact that math was my most difficult subject in school, I am fascinated by it. I am impressed by people who are good at math.

I do find mathematics very interesting. Or at least I did, before I started doing the Statistics 1 module and got to probability which I find difficult for some unknown reason.

I hear that a lot actually, but I find it a bit confusing. While maths can help a lot in nearly any field I can't really think of too many areas which require maths intrinsically (mathematician, engineer, physicist, economist, etc) such that you can't do anything without it.

And even that's not always, some people I know who are engineering majors aren't really that outstanding at maths, they know enough to pass their intros courses then specialize in less math heavy areas.

Well... I would not say it facinates me, but I do see math patterns sometimes and do like to figure out my finances, I use math as a tool to do better in life and not sink into debt.

I find the conceptual side of math, geometry and geometrical axioms especially, very fascinating, but hate doing, and generally suck at, the actual calculations because of my ADD.

I had trouble learning probability in high school, but made straight A's in it in college. I had trouble learning basic statistics in college, then learned it from a book by myself years later.

Sometimes I need a bit for my brain to get used to a different train of thought. I had the same issues with calculus. I love math, but the feeling is NOT mutual. :D

I do too. It's very frustrating. I mean I can do arithmatic and such - algebra, decimals and all that -forget about it. But I still love geometry - the shapes and other people's explainations about how symmetry actual *works* - I'm totally fascinated by patterns and the numbers that come up (easy counting them!) in nature.

Yes it does. I spend ages each day putting numbers. calculations and percentages to everything because I feel compelled to do it. Statistics are great. I live for maths (and my children of course). Is it true that people with musical ability are usually good at maths?

Mathematics is my strongeest academic strength. I especially have a liking for more puzzle-based math problems. I have a desire to learn number theory, but have never gotten around to it.

No, at school I had difficulties seeing the connection between those strange numbers in the book and reality.

Yesterday I received an e-mail from Dr. Larson in the Astronomy dept. at UW. I don't know if she coined this or borrowed it, but her e-mail signature contains this line:

"Mathematics is the language of the Universe; everyone should speak it fluently."

I'll also borrow one from Robert Heinlein:

"If it can't be expressed in figures, it's not science, it's opinion."

I concur with both of these statements. Mathematics is calisthenics for the left brain.

Good fortune,

- Icarus is the derivative of Ryan...

I like patterns, but I don't like maths. That's mostly because I've never really cared to learn it properly so I'm not giving it a fair chance.
