Believe it or not I have sounded incoherent many times. Sometimes it is so bad that I am speaking gibberish and no one understands me. I also speak like this at times, "You know how the who thing is crash, computer stuff is cow now wow things neat stuff." Yes, I actually speak like that. It is not all the time though, and it is obvious that I am not doing that now in my writing. When I am incoherent, it also affects my writing. In the journal I write, there were times where I wrote weird things down that made no sense in looking back at it. I always get confused. The evil doctors think it is part of schizophrenia, you know the disorganized speech part of it. I don't believe the doctors because they are out to get me. I hate how they agree with my insane brother who calls me the "schizo one." They also think I have delusions but everything I say is real! I'm perfectly sane I tell you!

Know the feeling.

I saw this thread and thought, "wait, do I ever sound coherent?" I do online . . . mostly, I like to think. In RL, however, I'm just permanently stuck with getting blank stares. In one of my undergrad groups I was voted "most random." Whee.

You mean unintentinally? :D

Yes, sometimes I do, unfortunately. Often, my wife when she's tired (and we're both Aspie's) will tell me she has no idea what I'm talking about, when it seems quite clear to me. I really think at that point I'm not being so much incoherent, as she's having a perceptual problem hearing me. Maybe.

I had a boss, who was very clearly spectrum, but unfortunately not as well acclimated to the world as many of us, before he was 'let go', he was infamous for his e-mails. He rambled from unconnected thought to unconnected thought in a fashion almost no one could follow. After deciphering a particularly bad one and explaining it to another department supervisor who'd come to me for help with it, I dubbed it as the "Stream of Unconsciousness" writing technique.

Oh, and

Thanks for that! I needed the laugh! Except the 3rd line drove me up the wall... I could HEAR the deep voice SAYING it... and I had to resort to Google to remember the movie....

Yes. I sound incoherent because my mouth gets dry really easily.

Sometimes... If I am around a lot of people I tend to mumble or background noises cause voice modulation problems as well.

People at times tell me I do not make sense when I talk. Its usually because, I am a technical geek where I work. I am often asked to solve problems others are having trouble with. I do not follow the conventional logics when thinking. My mind is going a mile a minute turning over hundreds if not thousands of potential solutions taking from each the bits and peices I need to make something work for the situation I am investigating.

Neurotypicals will ask me Wolf what are you thinking share it with me. At the times they ask the entire solution is not in word form yet. It is still raw in picture form the way I think. I also use colors, letters and numbers to organize my thinking. This happens at high rates of speed. If I had to convert all my thinking to NT format to share the problem it would take me forever to resolve the problem.

If try to translate my picture based thinking into NT word based communication before I have had a long time to engineer a response it sounds like I am just babbling non-sense. Neurotypical word based thinking is not my first language and if you do not give me time to translate and build a presentation plan you get gibberish or gobble-de-gook! I actually have to work quite hard to convert my autistic ways of thinking managing and presenting information to that used by NT's.

Oh, the many moments where I wish I could enunciate correctly...

Word-wise, I fumble with them all the time. I notice it especially in situations where I have to respond to somebody... Even though English is the only language I know, I often find myself disgusted with the poor grammar I hear myself using. Focusing in an attempt to get it right gives me headaches and takes more time than alot of people don't have patience for, but at least I'm trying.

I speak alright, and type halfway decently. If I am very angry or hyped up full of adrenalin I cannot convey verbal information at all, this is why in a verbal argument I always loose and confuse the other person, now days I dont even bother with a verbal argument, I say what I need to say and if they argue I just state that I will maintain my opinion and you can maintain yours.

I often stutter when I'm asked a question, even on a subject that I'm an expert on, like Maths. I just can't put things into words. It's hard to think of a word to describe the way I think, but the way way I can describe it is to say that my perception is highly intuitive. This makes it nearly impossible for me to pass on my knowledge to anyone else. I would often take a lot of time to translate my perception into a way which an NT would understand, and if I try to rush, I end up talking a whole load of rubbish which no one understands.

To make things even worse, English is actually my second language.

I've tried this sometimes, as I always argue with my mum and sister. But for them, they can't keep their opinion to themselves and I wish they would just shut the heck up. Hence why I hate them.

For me, there are days where I'm incredibly proper and days where it seems like I can't say anything right. But I think that happens to all of us every now and again.

Indeed, I cannot stand people who think they are always right and if they cannot get the other person to beleive what they beleive then they will fight with ya and not let it go. Its just simply not enough that they think they are right they have to make it so everyone else thinks they are right. I just walk away when this happens, and it does alot at work and sometimes when I hang out with friends. I basicly shut off at that point as far as I am concerned with them, eather walk away or I just nod my head and say 'yes you are right and I am wrong' or something like that and then they quiet down thinking they won but really it is you who won because you managed to get them to shut up and at the same time keep your opinion, they lost cause they could not sway ya.

I can turn into Elmer Fudd when I'm tired, stressed or hungry. I forget names, skip words and stammer. It's like a needle bouncing off a record. I keep loosing the groove and just get static.

Oh yes.

I sometimes mix up words when talking. I also will say something that has absolutely no bearing on the conversation at hand. It just comes out of left field, but it is phrased in the context of the conversation. It is like my brain knows what we are talking about, but it is also thinking about something else and just drops it into the sentence.

I also pick up conversations hours after the conversation is finished. It drives people crazy when I do that.

When I get excited or agitated, I sometimes stutter. Not exactly helpful when getting the point across.
