The one that really pisses me off is people with AS have trouble thinking abstractly and excel in math and sciences. For the record, I am formally diagnosed by more than one good doctor, and I am all about the arts, and it's what I excell in. If someone thought more abstractly than me, they'd probably be scizophrenic. And I suck at math and sciences, although some sciences I find facinating, over all I'm just not that kind of guy. But if I gave a f**k maybe I would be, because I have family that's really good at that mathy science hard facts stuff.

you mean those negative stereotypes called "symptoms"?

yeah, its tough to hide all your symptoms when you've got the disorder!

Wow psychotic, that was pretty fast for you to get banned. Only 6 hours ago? Maybe you broke some kind of record. I wonder if my thread was the lucky one that pushed Alex over the edge with you.

We can only pray.

I have friends. They aren't friends with me just out of pity for me. They are friends of all ages, of all backgrounds. I have aspie friends, NT friends, bipolar friends, depressed friends, "normal" friends, strange friends, introverted friends, extroverted friends (some of these friends have more than one trait; I don't have thousands of friends or anything), best friends, good friends, teacher friends, parent friends, nice friends, strong friends, manic friends, racially diverse friends, non-american friends . . .

My situation is pretty much the same. I have a couple of NT friends who are particularly supportive of me, I don't know what I would do without them.

Other things? I take an interest in fashion/clothes and like to think I'm quite well dressed. I know absolutely nothing about computers, programming, computer games, RPG, star trek etc etc and do not wish to. I would actually prefer to go down the gym.

I have some of what I think is empathy, but it is on a very conscious level and I have to work very hard at it.

No, it looks like it was either the accusing another member of "leeching off the government" (and of not getting enough money doing it, as if that made her even more of a failure than he was already claiming she was), claiming that black people look like apes, or telling an autistic guy he was just a loser who now had an excuse (through diagnosis). Or some combination of the above. o.O

And to answer that thing about "You mean symptoms?" as if it was actually meant anything but disparagingly, no, that's not what people were talking about.

We're talking about inaccurate assumptions about autistic people, or ones that are only sometimes accurate. For instance, it's certainly true that some autistic people have no interest in people. Other autistic people, however, are assumed to have no interest in people when we do have interest -- because other people can't properly read our body language. This makes it only a stereotype, not a universal trait, even if it's one of the traits used to diagnose us.

For instance, almost nobody diagnosed using the 1980 criteria actually fit them, because at least one of them was based on such a misconception about us, and people were diagnosed based on assumption instead of reality.

I bet it was this, combined with calling another poster a loser and comparing black people to apes. Pretty low stuff...

Aspies are supposed to not be creative? Well, it would really suck if I'm not creative, since I want to be an artist or something.^^
