No, because I only just got to 1000 posts so I can change my status-thing... I'm not going to start all over again dammit. :)

Identity Crisis Topic

I get used to things and I kind of miss the old avatars when they are changed. I do not have an avatar because I could never crystalize my identity into one visual. I morph my internal image sometimes and so no single picture sitting on a page or screen does justice. But I am glad the names are the same.

Cheer up, Ana54, you are young, your name is good, and you have great ideas. thank you for posting this topic. :)

You needn't feel ashamed, at least not here. I've enjoyed reading your posts and would hate to see you leave or try to be someone you're not.

Yeah, I miss the old avatars, sometimes I think people are different because of them.

I always stick my face somewhere in my avatar so that people at least know who they're talking to. There's a few other people here like that and I'm grateful to them because I feel like I'm talking to people rather than rubber ducks, anime characters, paper bags, actors, spaceships etc.. (not pointing the mouse at anyone).

However, I do understand the desire to start anew. There have been times on WP when I've wished I could start over to erase some negative impressions I have made, to have a clean slate free of the record of foolish things I have said or people I have slighted. I've also occasionally wished I could have a different name- I registered as Orwell when I was in a very cynical mood and often wish I was not bound by that decision, but as we all know creating duplicate accounts is not allowed here.

Only after about 18 months it starts to buckle under and I start to lose my balance with keeping all the social situations, the people that have gotten close, the job, the bills and by three years ( at the most) I have to move again and start all over. I have done this for over 30 years and always wondered why. I always was me, eventually.

I even see it happening here, too.

This is largely why I never even considered going to university close to home. I wanted a fresh start, and I've thankfully gotten that at a university 1200 miles from my hometown, where no one knows me and I can forge a fresh identity for myself.

I used to know someone whose philosophy was to move every 5 years. It does make sense because after 5 yrs living in the same town gets old and you usually wear out your welcome and novelty by then. The only thing is its hard to start over again especially if you're not super social to begin with. It is cool moving far away from your hometown then you can be a different person where people don't have preset opinions about you and they don't report everything you say to your family.
