I used to have one until it was destroyed and taken over by my step sister. [actually...ex step sister].
It wasn't really a haven as such...only a very small bedroom. I have never had a place that I can truly feel safe in. It's a shame...but maybe that can be a project for me...oh well.

Before moving out, locking myself in my bathroom with the hot tap on (in winter). I would sit in the floor with comfortable warm clothes and be able to concentrate while isolated from external sounds.

Now, I have an entire aparment for myself and yet I don't know. . . I'm under stress somehow.

I have a haven. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with my boyfriend. The other bedroom is my haven. I'm there right now. It's full of toys and guitars, with a bed in the middle of the room.

My bed is the closest thing to a haven I have. Lots of pillows, heavy blankets, cat...I'm good.

My closet is really not the right shape to be a nice place to be. I really wish I had a room about 3 1/2' x 6' x 2 1/2'. It would fit a twin mattress and have two feet of room to the ceiling above the mattress. Or even just a loft would be nice. I like small spaces. :D

They all sounds pretty nice. I think another thing I like about being in the process of making mine is the work it makes me do.

My whole flat, because I get to do things my way in it (so long as it isn't against the tenancy agreement).

Now I've got 3 desks to work at, one in the bedroom for fixing and making things, and 2 computer desks in the living room, so I don't get annoyed at not having enough desk space any more. I've got my PC, it's water cooler, a 28" monitor, a huge gaming mouse mat, my keyboard and big joystick and throttle on one huge desk, and a spare PC with the printer and scanners on a smaller one. No space for anything else, so I'm really happy now all the messy stuff has it's own space.

I got to put all the furniture where I want, so the computer desk and my bed are right next to radiators. If I get really stressed out or feel ill I wedge a plank of wood between the radiator and the window sill next to my bed, and throw one side of both duvets over it, so it gets nice and warm. It also does a great job of blocking out nearly all light and sound. I've got a 3" foam matress on top of a spring matress, so there's no lumpy springs.

I also love being able to have a bath for as long as I want whenever I want, and cooking my own food.

My house is my haven cause I live alone and could not imagine life having someone else living here with me.

I need one or more havens to keep myself sane. My office at work is one; at home, I generally must have at least one room that is entirely mine. My havens tend to be elaborately set up with things that make me comfortable; most people find them dizzying, but to me, everything has a purpose, even if it is just a comfort item.

Lighting is very important; soft mood lighting is a must, and NO f*****g fluorescent lights.

Smell is also important; I like a mix of coffee, pipe smoke, incense, and old books.

Enforceable privacy is important; there needs to be a closable door; a lock is good, but those who know me know I'm best left alone when my door is closed (my autistic son gets special dispensation in this area).

I've posted these before, so apologies to the repeat viewers.

Agreed. Fluorescent lights are my personal anti-christ. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do when they do away with those good old-fashioned "inefficient" lights. I don't care how much better they are for the environment, it isn't worth it.

I once described fluorescent lights in a school paper. I don't remember what I wrote but I am sure there were comparisons to Hitler and something about rather having my legs cut off. I hate going to my one class because the room is probably 8 foot by 8 foot and it has 8 fluorescent lights. It is a horrlbe class room and it has no ventilation to boot.

My apartment was my haven...the last few years I have not had a haven, but in my house I created a haven for my son who has HFA...

It's called his "Life is good" room. We have two thick yoga mats, a water fountain, a cd player with classical/soft music.

I'm okay with fluorescent if there is another source of light (like a window or an incandescent light). If they are the only light source....

I can't believe most people can't hear them.

hmm...I'm sitting in it, right now. It used to be the bedroom, but between an incontinent hound, 4 cats, a granddaughter and wife and daughter, it's precious little haven...;)

just a computer 'desk', which is actually like an entertainment armior, with nowhere to put my feet...sigh..;)
