Aspes and drugs...
Well, I can't responsibly tell you whether it is common among others with AS, but it is for me. I never did anything on the level of heroin; for me it was (and still is) alcohol. I started drinking about 5 years ago (I'm only 22), but after my return from Iraq I began abusing the hell out of it and haven't stopped since. Pretty much every day for about 3 years now, I drink roughly a 12 pack per night. I do (personally) seem to have a very addictive personality in the sense of I get obsessed or "hung up" on the idea of something I want, and can't let it go. I've tried so hard before to not drink after work. I tried distracting myself with other things like watching a movie or playing a video game, but that desire to drink won't even let me concentrate on anything else until I satisfy it. Anyway, I should shut up and save some of this for my "other forum"....lol.
I do hope you are doing well though, and I wish you the best.
Logic I go on is, drugs don't help you it just replace's it with another problem.
I've never done drugs of any kind. Living where I live, one would think I'd at least smoked pot. Nope. Never smoked anything, not even a cigar. Maybe that's why I'm so boring.
We don't medicate our kid, either. We're dealing with Autism without drugs, but I have no problem with parents or adults who use prescribed drugs wisely to alleviate the symptoms. Ritalin is a common drug among the people we know.
