Age1600,

You ARE hard to peg. Some things DEFINITELY look HIGH functioning, and some appear to be mid. As for a LOT of the things you mention, like forgetting to flush, or not liking your food touched, or holding your ears, aren't indicative of LFA. A LOT of people NEVER seem to flush. I try to flush every time. I DON'T like my food being touched, and hold my ears with loud or irritating sounds though. HEY, it is MY food, and I have a right. You don't try those things with a strange dog. And I have hypersensitive hearing, so a lot of things HURT! Still, you seem diligent, communicate well, and try to help others. I would say that you are closer to being high.

Somebody had a forum about what level functioning you are, so i was thinking to myself about this the other day as well, even after watching miracle run. My bf says I'm just moderate functioning, all my doctors tell me i'm functioning enough with some good days that i seem high functioning. Meaning, Moderate-High functioning autism. I always wondered though, maybe its the opposite, I'm high functioning with moderate functioning days... hmm so I don't know, so thats why I'm asking people here what do you think by the description I give you below

I have no friends(maybe one), dont work, not going to school at the moment, still need help with the daily tasks, need assitance going out places usually, self help skills are weak, I even still have problems remembering to flush lol, need constant reminders on how to do things or will just end up going back into my own little world, stim all the time(such as spinning, headshaking, finger twisting, rocking, flapping and etc), don't give good eye contact still, have problems feeding myself meaning, if not taking care of food wise, won't eat, can't be touched expecially unexpectingly or i freak, still hold my ears in loud situations, sometimes still use sign in order to communicate, still have meltdowns in public, still have been known to wander off haha, still sometimes seem nonverbal, touching everything I see, including everything royal blue, and everything soft haha, have bad implusions, obsessed with closing and opening things such as doors, and switching lights on and off(STILL to this day do both those things), have to stay on routine or I instantly meltdown to the point that I'm completely nonverbal again, I would also have to say I need somewhat constant supervision when it comes to going anywhere that involves malls, weddings, parties, anything where theres a lot of people, still do the stereotype autistic things such as lining up everything I see and still do self injurious behaviors unfortunely, still cant deal with change that good even if its a new hair cut or pair of shoes, bad receptive and expressive language and have huge sensory problems that stop me from doing a lot  .

I do have a boyfriend for about 2 years next week, i do drive(somewhat good too!), i volunteer everywhere including for homeless shelters, shelters for abused and abandoned teens, hospitals, environmental programs, I'm even a big sister part of big sister/big brother program, I can go places by myself (just rarely), can do laundry without a problem, I know how to make breakfast(eggs, bacon, toast), tuna melt, sandwiches and anything frozen lol, I take care of my two cats, and my two lizards on my own, have held a job before, will start college classes once again this summer, can handle some social situations, sometimes so good its unbelievable, can socialize sometimes I seem so natural at it I amaze myself, I'm even known around town as extremely friendly and sweet, I still babysit if anybody needs me, can even take care of children without a problem, can keep my room pretty clean, can make friends somewhat easily, the keeping part is the problem haha, love to crab and fish, can jet ski(even know how to do several tricks on the jet skis, even raced when i was younger as well), and drive a boat without a problem :) !

So I was wondering what would you classify me under? High functioning? Moderate-High functioning? Just plain Moderate functioning? Low-Moderate functioning :?:

I would say Moderate-High Functioning, as you do have a lot of behavioural issues of more lower functioning Autistics, but you're very high functioning in others.

I agree. I believe you're one of those people that learn by repeating things, and so you will learn to flush the toliet if you see it enough times.
I agree with the whole food touching thing. I would have a meltdown if some person touched my food (unless it's my mom, because I have this nice (but irrational) theory that germs from family aren't dangerous) :D

Could you give me some symptoms? My logical mind would give a better answer if you did that :D

I hate people touching my food, and that most especially includes family(my dad has a dog and doesn't wash his hands after handling it. Ick!).

Age, I only don't say that you're not completely high functioning because I'm a High Functioning Autistic and rarely have meltdowns anymore (thank gawd), and you still do. That's not a bad thing (Hello, you could talk when before you couldn't :P)
There's hope out there. I was severely Autistic when I was younger, and with early intervention and lots of work, I've managed to be who I am now (A slightly depressed but very high functioning Autistic 16 year old)
Don't feel bad about those bad days, as you have to take things at your own pace :D

I have strong obsessions, I only like the feel of casual clothes, such as jeans, shorts, sweats and T-Shirts, I don't like the feeling of hair on my forehead, and I have a certain type of incontinence. I also have an unusual accent for a Canadian. Other than that, everything else about me, is normal.

High Functioning then, as I definitely have some obsessions yet I consider myself High Functioning. (Nobody has guessed that I have Aspergers without me telling them, which is a good sign)

I read your whole post but I really don't know because I don't know a bunch of autistics to compare you to. You seem to do some things well but have some problems with other things. If I had to guess I'd say either moderate-to-high functioning or high functioning. I'm going to start a poll on what people think of the autistics in Miracle Run and you can compare yourself to them. I'm glad you got to watch the movie.

Age 1600,I'd go along with your own view of
High Functioning with Moderate functioning
days. You may have sensory issues but the
fact you're aware of them and are able to
describe them so eloquently points more
towards high function.

Cockney Rebel,I'd put yourself in the same category.

Having said that,I'm sure we all have areas
where we could vary between Low,Moderate
and High on different days depending on how
we feel at the time !

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.
