I agree that people have different sensitivities, and levels of competence (if you want a mistake made properly just ask me), but I think that splitting everyone is not the way I would go. Having safer areas of the site that are far more heavily moderated I would go along with. Areas where people who are feeling vulnerable can go to talk to others who are feeling the same way, but the option to go back to the usual topics and to everyones opinions should be kept open. Also if, like me, you are pretty rigorous about keeping away from people then exposure to other opinions may not be comfortable, but is really a good idea. (in my defense here, I do monitor a load of things on the i/net left and right religious and not, so although I don't speak to many i do encounter a lot of opinion)

I always thought the rude people and the elitists were one and the same, but to each his/her own.

"transgender" covers an awful lot of definitions. i was told that gender dysphoria is more specific (and a medical term, which doesn't cover the social definitions which transgender does).

had a thought, anyway - mathogre, this might be an intrusive question - please feel free to tell me to mind my own business. sorry :(

I don't know if this should be split from the factions thread.

Gender Dysphoria is in the DSM IV and as such is a medical term. Transgender comes from the community and is a more general term covering a wider variety of identities. the problem with gender dysphoria is that you can be diagnosed with it if you are NOT transgender - for example, many gay and lesbian youth are diagnosed with it.

You have a point there. Then again, anyone who thinks they can't be rude and is perfect would be considered elitist. I was simply trying to mock her anyways, so don't bother looking into it. :P I say "mock" for lack of a better word BTW.

Hi!

Sorry it's taken so long to respond. No one was being intrusive! I was away from the computer from late in the afternoon until now, just busy, nothing else. (It's 1:45AM at the moment. Still need to go for my night walk. ;))

Gender dysphoria, transgenderism, crossdressing, transvestism, transsexualism, shape shifting. I'm somewhere in there. Some days I'm a Manly Man, some days a Girlie Girl. Most days when I look in a mirror I see someone of the wrong sex looking back at me. It's just another reason to not get up in the morning, but I do it anyway.

I guess I just reacted at the idea of factions. I'm the noob here, but I would hope this is a safe place for a wide variety of people with Asperger's. It seems to be. I just saw the idea of factions as being so destructive.

I'm here to learn how better to cope in The Real World. Some things work for me, but others do not. I'd like to think I can learn lots of things from others, and that what I contribute here might even help someone else! Separate into factions, and that's not possible. At least that's how I see it.

I'm not sure what kicked off this topic. But it's interesting as another AS forum I post on currently has a thread going about whether or not they should split the forum up more into a wider variety of categories. A few people (including me) have cited WP as a place where that has already happened... and now you want to divide it further :o Factions of one seems the logical conclusion.

Can't remember if I said hi or not, but welcome to WrongPlanet Mathogre! Just wanted to say that I think this is a great place in terms of acceptance of diversity. There are usually little strains of dissent running somewhere in the site, but that is typical of any forum of this size. As a general principle, everyone is extremely tolerant: I used to be terrified of posting my thoughts and opinions, but most people on here are really understanding! :D

Good morning!

Vivi, thanks for all of your kind words!

Neuroman, it's nice to know I'm not alone. :D

PhoenixKitten, thank you for the welcome!

I'm sorry if my initial reaction came off harshly. While my time here has been short so far, I see the people here as being good. There might be something wrong in the way I communicate sometimes...

We don't need factions. That would be restrictive and confusing. If you want a site for more extreme cases of AS/ASD, then you should start a seperate site.

I think all this is ridiculous. Factionization is futile.
