don't know what 'who here can/can't handle the news?' means, but dad [aspie] has always had obsession with it,he will watch every news programme possible, look at it on teletext,go on the news channels on his freeview box and look at it on the internet.
Am do not watch the news, find it as pointless/unrelateable as adverts.

I'm neutral about the news. It doesn't bother me...but i'm not interested in it either.

I mean I'm asking people here if they "can handle" the news (that is watch/read/listen/etc without getting upset or something like that) or if they can't really deal with some of the upsetting stuff they show all the time.

Lately, I think the news in general has been some sort of apocolyptic portender. I am avoiding it, except for the weather. I have to watch for school closings, but usually tune out the rest. Seems way too awful to me. Yesterday alone there was an earthquake, a baby killer, a baby starver, a rapist, a child pornographer, and snow. Woo hoo what a wonderful and wacky mix. Thank god California's not on fire again, or we would all have to head for the hills!

I think that many people would be a great deal happier if they weren't constantly exposed to news all the time.

I just watch news on the election because that's mostly all I care about. I used to not be able to watch the news because it was so depressing but the election has brought me a lot of hope.

I don't have any problem with real news. The problem is that much of the crap on CNN, MSNBC, and network nightly news is fluff, infotainment, right-wing propaganda, and rants by idiot pundits, it isn't real news. I could care less about Britney Spears's latest issue and the latest idiotic rant by Cris Mathews. I want hard facts, not fluff and the inoffensive and relativistic "lets give all opinions equal say even if the opinions are crap" media paradigm.

I'm getting sick of it. All I here is so and so's been shot. I usually go on the website and watch BBC news.

I only ever pay attention to news that pertains to me. For this reason I don't often watch news on TV, but find (and I mean find, I'll search through pages of articles to find one that I actually am interested in) it on the internet.

I find news in general depressing, so I refuse to watch/listen or read it. Sometimes I'll read a newspaper, but most of what I know I hear by word of mouth or The Economist magazine.

It depends. I never really experience daily happiness (I would describe myself in equanimity), but when I become aware of the suffering of others reality sets in. That in itself is enough to let those who are complaining to stop. It opens my eyes.

As I posted previously, I do not like the news from developing countries. It is too gruesome and I see no point in it. I'm very disgusted by their news format. The reporters just seem like jerks.

Im usually interested in what's going on, especially the local news. Sometimes I do get really upset, and can't get certain stories out of my head, depends on my mood.

i find that most of the news is irrelevent. it is no longer "news" and has become one more piece of entertainment for the masses. i actually hate watching it, so i have YM and the little news info pop-up that comes up when it turns on is enough for me.

I still vaguely keep track of it, simply because sometimes big things happen that i feel i should know about (hurricaines, oil refinerys blowing up, 9-11) and if i don't track the news, i'll feel stupid when someone at work points those out to me.

I don't think much about the news. It's too limited, riddled with personal opinions and 'ready to serve' information, IMO.

I watch it sometimes, but it's become something more of a superficial 'updater' and passtime.

News to me topic

I am a news junkie. The more perspectives, the better. I think MrMark is a great reporter for any and all AS related stories and current events. This is one reason why I keep coming rocketing back to WP. All posts here are a form of news. I love the papers and TV news sources as well.

Yup. I am a real news junkie. Bring it on!
