WoW is a very alluring game for someone whose real life is not going exactly how they planned. In WoW, it's easy to set goals and to achieve them. To become more powerful, all you need to do is to spend more time playing the game. As you become immersed deeper within the game, it's possible to satistify all of your maslow's hierarchy of needs... in game. You can feel safe, you can have friends, you can feel like you have a family, you can gain respect through helping your guild, you can help solve problems in a group.. etc. It's relatively easy to become the person you want to be. This is why people will let their real lives go to disarray while they log more and more hours on WoW. They don't care that their place looks like s**t and they haven't taken a shower in days. It doesn't matter - they get their sense of achievement from playing online. And it feels, very, very, real. It's pretty hard for someone who hasn't been there to understand.

Of course, it's all a waste in the end, because as soon as you log out, everything is gone.

I am pretty addicted to the internet, but a great part of the reason is that here is where I have a (decent) social life. I can step away from the comptuer, and often I feel the urge to; get annoyed with my mom if we don't use our vacations to go out somewhere.
I'm not depressed though, and I've noticed taht people who have followed me into this habit often do get depressed and are really seriously addicted.
Guess I'm more or less immune to it.

Although i only spend 2 hours on da net but i use da net atleast 2-3 times a day but dats is cos i upload train vids use other forums n also look up for jobs.

I am definately 100% addicted to my computer, and in particular Star Sonata, a great space MMO game. My favorite thing to do is play it, it is a great way to pass time and very fun. During weekends, I try to play as much as possible. My parents do not like me playing it, though. In the summer, they tell me to go outside. I go out and read in the hammock, which gets them madder. In the winter, they tell me to get off the computer, even when there is nothing else to do.

A member of this site refers to the PC as a "hallucination machine". It is so very true.

I remember I had internet addiction when I was 17 and I knew it was a problem because it was keeping me from my family, from my neighbor, from doing other things, I was always in a hurry to get things done so I could get to the internet. But the problem was I was writing stories and I write them the same night and keep myself at the chair getting through my writer's blocks so I can post my chapter and my Dad did not have any programs where I could save my stories so I started saving it as a draft in my email so I could take my time writing and then when my dad got Microsoft word, that also helped so I started saving my stories there and it helped cut off my internet addiction. I didn't have to be on it all the time and I wouldn't get so anxious if I wouldn't be on it.

I know I am not addicted to the internet anymore. I can go on a trip and not get anxious that I am not on it, I can do other things without being anxious to get on. But I cannot live without it of course, no it wouldn't kill me literally, I just can't imagine living my life and never being on the forums ever again and chatting to my buddies, writing stories and posting them. And I use it to look up information, get directions to go to places, that was also how I found my job.

I suffer from it.
