being.a.mod.is.not.a.job.

It is a hobby and a choice. It's not hard, either.

Ahahahahahaha! HA!

YES IT BLOODY IS HARD. I MOD MY OWN FORUMS, AND EVEN WITH ALL THE TIMESAVERS I BUILT INTO IT, ITS STILL LIKE A FULL TIME JOB... Especially when our Java IRC client quits on us, requiring me to write a whole new one for it..........

And it is a job. It may be unpaid, but its a bloody job.

I mod forums with over 100,000 members. It's not hard, or a job. Anyone that thinks it's a job needs to put their face in a cow pat.

Is someone holding a knife at your throat saying do this or else? You don't have to do it, it's a choice.

Being a moderator of an online message board is a job; you preside over a community where it is your job to maintain order and peace amongst other members at your discrection.

Read the definition of "job" from this link, and it should all click in: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=job

Yes, but this can also apply to a real-life job where you actually get paid.

when a moderator has a concern and gives a warning or a caution, then handle it and grow up. If you feel it is unjustified, then speak to the moderator yourself, just to make sure you understand each other.I have privately P.Med moderators when I wasn't sure on something. It didn't kill me to get things straight with them first. And it certainly didn't make me look foolish either. If I can't suttle things with one moderator then I would certainly go to the other moderators or contact Alex. If not...well there are other websites. One time Jay Shaw helped me out , I was very upset and hurt about something that happened here, and he really did well in mediating. Thats why I came back as I did leave for awhile. So come on, no reason to fall apart just 'cause a moderator expressed a concern you may not agree with.

To those of you who are NOT mods on THIS forum:

Are you kidding?! I'm on some other forums, some commercial, some voluntary. This would be a tough forum to moderate just from the perspective of people having Asperger's and therefore having problems with social interaction. Throw in the few folks who will twist words every which way, denigrate the mods, and just be as annoying as possible, and you've got a job that's anything but fun.

From what I've seen of the mods, they do a good job and are a hell of a lot more tolerant and even-handed than what I've experienced on other forums. Thank you!

This is a great forum. I see it as potentially a safe haven for Aspies, and moreso a place for us to figure out how to function in the real world. Yet in my short time here, what I've seen is far more hostile between members and from members to mods than what I've seen on other forums. I see lots of people trying to do better with their lives, and conversely I've seen a few people who twist words at will and lash at virtually everything.

It's really bad to see members cut down other members who also happen to be moderators. Yeah, they're members too, and they're trying to keep some order in this place so that all of us have a better chance in the real world.

You want help making it in the real world? Here's your support group, and you can thank the moderators for helping maintain that. Alternatively, you can lash at your fellow members and wreck the place. It's your choice.

I agree with mathogre who stated things better than I.

Doing a task for not money is as hard or harder than doing it for money. This is worsened by the abuse that can be leveled at the mods at this forum. I do not participate in other forums so I have no comparison but I know that having people verbally abuse you and to constantly question your motives and value is hard. For this reason alone the mods will receive my respect.

I think it is apparent that being perceived as fair or equal anywhere in this world is hard to do or else politics would be friendly and not so agressive. The mods here do a good "job" in my opinion (and opinion is what it is but so is most everything in this world).
