I only flap my hands when I'm very, very excited; when I'm just very excited, I rub my thumbs against my fingers. Both feels great though. I've never seen anybody else flap their hands, but if I did, I would probably address them.

I LOVE hand flapping! I do it when I listen to music. I find I can't really connect to music unless I hand flap while I listen to it.

I'm more of a rocker than a hand-flapper, but I do it occasionally.

He probably means greet. I would say hi as well. I have seen some pictures of people flapping because they are happy, and there is something that seemed nice, even if odd. To the best of my knowledge, I have never flapped or been exposed to such.

Even the rocking, and other stims I do, don't really seem autistic.

Address is fine, and a good word, but sometimes confusing. there have been comedy routines done around it. These days, it usually refers to a location, or providing a location, speak, refer to, a speech. It used to ALSO be used to mean greet, and to do something like hit a ball.

But MAN! I just checked dictionary.com! Greet wasn't referred to in the first book, and the ball address wasn't refered to until the THIRD!! !! !! YIKES! I guess this isn't a great week for dictionaries!

I love words. Initially I wanted to use the word "accost", which I've liked ever since I heard Paul McCartney sing

Walking down the sidewalk on a purple afternoon
I was accosted by a barker playing a simple tune
Upon his flute

but upon looking it up in a dictionary, I found that it could also mean "to mob, molest". 8O

People shouldn't get bullied for flapping! Autistic or not. Almost EVERYBODY even NTs show some kind of behaviour when they are excited. Examples: Jumping up and down, clapping, screaming, yeah whatever! Then of course we aspies and auties can show our excitement through flapping our hands when NTs show it through clapping their hands!

Yeah, Accost has always had a BAD connotation. You don't want to ACCOST someone. A barker is one that basically very verbally tries to give a sales pitch. Like a carnival barker trying to get you to visit a show. Accost is probably a good way to describe how people feel about some of them.

I don't like "motor mannerisms" as when I do them it means I'm overwhelmed, nor do I like the feeling of doing such.

Not to mention the stares one receives.

Though I do like curling my hands up, I derive comfort from such, but this is more of an "odd posture" than a motor mannerism.
