Sometimes I catch myself counting things I wouldn't normally count like how many eyelashes I can see on someone face (usually when I pretend to maintain eye contact), how many wrinkles a person has around their mouth and eyes, etc.

I don't know why I do this, call it obsessive.

I count almost everything, even though I try not to.

I've lived in the same house for 11 years, but every time I walk up or down the stairs in the hallway I count how many there are (by the way...16 in total).

I count when I brush my teeth. For every 4 brush strokes I do on my teeth, that counts as one second. I brush my teeth for exactly 3 minutes twice a day.

I count how many steps I take when I walk ANYWHERE. Whether it be from by bedroom to the kitchen...or from my house to the supermarket.

Before I go to bed each night, when the bedroom light is off I touch it 60 times (without turning it on and off). Don't ask me why I do this as I have no idea.

I count how many triangles there are on this poster in my house. I know that there are 37, but I count them anyway.

There are many more things as well.

Hi ASS-P, Yes that is one meaning of the word Tallyman. The other is someone who counts, as in the song.

I count repetive patterns or squares on a solid floor to see whether I get a number that is symetrical with the pattern.

I like symetrical or repetive patterns, I try to seek out perfection or flaws in building patterns and contantly count the number of squares or shapes on a wall or floor.
I also walk in a pattern on a patterned floor, making sure my steps follow the squares or using my shoes as a measurement instrument.

I could have written exactly that :) Do you create geometrical shapes in your head too? The trouble is getting the symmetry right. So for example if I trace out a square is is symmetrical BUT the start and end position is at one corner. That isn't regular. So I then draw another three squares on top starting from the next corner around so a square has been started and ended from each of the four corners. However, that has now introduced handed rotation - either left or right handed rotation, so I need to do another set of four squares with the opposite rotation. My mind creates fiendish jobs for itself endlessly.

Yep. Counting things. Word jumbling, etc. Whatever keeps my brain occupied and keeps me from brutally murdering whatever idiot I'm having to have a conversation with for whatever reason. Or whatever keeps me from being brain numbingly bored.

Counter measures topic

"Make it a good count": These were the immortal words of N inventory manager of Western Inventory Service, in Barrie, Ontario where I worked briefly 7 years ago. I liked the work, but I was not fast enough, and was let go. :(

But I have always liked to count. anything and everything. especially money. Love to count coins and all the keys in my collection. :D

My son's a counter, too.
He happily counts well past 1000, and then he seems to get bored.
He counts cars when we're driving, counts in bed at night (Mum,I'm up to 1226 and I'm still not asleep :) ) He counts how many kapla bricks he uses, and aims to use all 1000. He counts on the trampoline.
He likes numbers, and counting is a good cure for boredom.

I count too. It's a helpful coping mechanism at the dentist. But also I count steps every day. As a small child I used to hold my breath and count how long I could hold it for. Also I used to see how long it would take me to count to 1000. I think it was a cure for boredom. Numbers have added an extra dimension to my life. I count tiles, wallpaper patterns, patterns in rugs. I love fractions and will divide things equally in my head.

Ooooo counting... doesn't everyone count? If I'm not 100% occupied on something else I count... be it characters in a sentance or lines on a road... it passes the time and keeps my brain from going in 1 million different directions all of which will probably end in disaster for myself or someone else... :)
