is it me or do we not have much tolerance for bad service
Well, I have been to several subways that did it in 5 minutes also, but many do things like:
1. Handle money and "CLEAN" with the gloves that are to protect the CUSTOMER from such things. Why don't we just give them counterfeit money? After all, it LOOKs real! Just like their gloved hands LOOK like they may be sanitary!
2. Assume!
3. Ask questions with no attempt to listen.
4. Not listen.
5. Act like you are an IDIOT if YOU understand that some things(like peppers) can NOT be removed from a sandwich! They leave a liquid and residue that affects the sandwich EVEN after they are "removed".
JUST TODAY an IDIOT(and she really is one) asked me if I wanted a cover. I said NO, like usual, and she took my meal, and put a cover on it. WHY!?!? She came close to me blowing up, and the stuff is just more polution!
Man, I could tell LOTS of horror stories. I once asked how to get a piece of hardware to live up to its promises, and the company led me on for MONTHS! They sent me chip schematics, and I told them it was IMPOSSIBLE for their system to live up to its claims! They then ADMITTED it, tried to wheedle out on a technicality(which couldn't be true as they led me on, and advertised differently), and one guy EVEN threatened to sue ME for libel!
One ISP company had a minor problem trying to get a small amount from my bank account, and threatened to sue me, if I didn't pay! I sent them the five dollars and told them I never heard ANYTHING so A..inine(first and last time I ever used that word), and that I ****NEVER**** wanted to hear from them again. To this day, I advertise AGAINST them! I was thinking about closing that account anyway! Frankly, I think other companies are EASIER to use. AND, if I have mail, a simple chime is fine. Yeah, I KNOW, you probably guessed the name. I wish they would change it. Having America in the name is pretentious anyway. BTW EARTH is pretentious ALSO, if you get my meaning. If only I could bring THAT to court!
BTW a friend of mine once asked a place if something had ANY seafood in it. He was VERY alergic to seafood. They said it didn't have ANY seafood! The result? He almost DIED! He was in the hospital for TWO days!! !! !
Here's a perfect example...Just went to Subway to get a sandwhich...this is my 2nd attempt to get a decent sandwhich there...I figured, maybe I had just bad luck the first time. So, ask for a HOT AND TOASTED Italian sub, with salad, italian dressing, mayo...ok...I specifically tell the cashier that I want the sandwhich HOT AND TOASTED and ask if they have a toaster or similar oven...she replies with "yes, we have a microwave"...I tell her a sandwhich is never TOASTED in a microwave and their ad says "HOT AND TOASTED"...So again, I ask if they have a different oven...she says yes and I say, well that's what I want.
25 minutes later, I get a COLD sandwhich...no cheese, no italian dressing...When I tell her it's cold, she tells me that they close at 10PM and they have already turned off their oven (mind you I ordered at 905PM!! !) I LOST IT! I told her she needed to find herself another job or quit if she couldn't even make a freaking sandwhich right...
ARHG$#%#$%#$5 Yes, stupid stuff like this puts me over the edge...unfortunately, where I live, IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE DAY...
(I'm moving soon...thank God)
I concur. Nothing wrong with that.
I also think that basic communication skills should be a prerequisite for people who are working the counter.
OH NO!! !! !! You CAN'T have THAT! 60% of all "americans" would be OUT OF WORK!! !! !! (Truthful statement, but said tounge in cheek with sarcasm)
Tell me about it!
Nope! You're just reasonable and know what you want!
Agreed. I can guarantee having a meltdown after dealing with bad customer service. I think its true that it reflects a lot of the general lack of respect in society, like when people serving you obviously don't care about what they're doing. Yes I take it personally, and I'm going to continue to do so. I also can't abide people's lack of initiative. Problems will arise but it seems like no-one has the common sense lately to think around them. It drives me mental!
What you have to remember is that customer service jobs are, by and large, minimum wage. I work as a shop assistant and get £5.60 an hour (minimum wage in the UK is £5.52). You are not likely to get many high-calibre, intelligent, conscientious and enthusiastic employees for that kind of money. I do my best at work, because I don't like the idea of people thinking badly of me, but I only got 6/12 in the last mystery shopper survey. Apparently, my name badge 'wasn't clearly sited', I didn't smile enough, and I didn't make eye contact (a bad point with me). I was called into the boss's office over this.
Think of that the next time you deal with a less-than-perfect service sector employee.

I really can't stand my bus service. It's just getting worse and worse. They used to stop outside the college- but oh no, that was just too good for us students, so they decided to cut out the college altogether apart from one bus first thing in the morning (which is unofficial, so it's not totaly reliable) and one bus at 4pm, which is a different bus number and takes 1 hour 30 mins to get to my town. So when I want to go home, I either have to take that bus or walk down into the city, to get the ones that only take an hour to get to my town...though it's a 15 min walk to get to the bus stop. Which then makes it an hour and 15 mins... Which really sucks when the collage I used to go to was 10 mins walk away from my house. But I go to this college as its Media courses are MUCH better equipped, and it generally has much more recourses. It even has an Aspie-only 'lounge' (though NT friends are welcome if invited), for relaxation and support.
And what's worse is that they start their journeys near our college, yet somehow we have to go into the city to ride on them. It's as if they think all students have cars.
Because of the deteriorating service, it's making me even more eager to finish my driving lessons. If it gets any worse, I might speak to the head of the Student Union at our college (who is an Aspie too
).

It is not your imagination. Service in this country has sunk to a new low and it's everywhere you go. Part of the reason is that there is poor education and lack of communication/people skills on the part of the workers. And, our service industry is turning predominately bi-lingual which isn't bad in and of itself. I think everyone should know two languages. But, what you get in America today are barely literate bi-linguals who neither speak English good enough nor Spanish good enough to serve their customers effectively...and lack basic skills and fundamental etiquette in dealing with people. My opinion is that even if you work at Burger King you need to know how to count, follow-through with the right order, not make the customer repeat themselves ten times, and give a cohesive answer in English to English-speaking patrons. That goes for everyone, not one particular group.
My daughter wouldn't thank you for getting me started on customer service.
I'll leave it at this: I used to work as a grocery store cashier and I figure if I could manage to be helpful and courteous to my customers, the least the kids at HEB could do is not turn their backs on me to hold conversations with the cashier at the next register.

£5.52? That is more than I made on MY first 2 jobs, EVEN if you earned $5.52!! !! !! ! Still, we aren't talking about people that aren't college graduates or straight A(excellent) students! We are talking about people that make you feel they couldn't even get a D(almost failing)! !! !

And WHO started this GARBAGE about "bilingual" meaning you can speak spanish and another language!?!?!?!? SAY IT WITH ME FOLKS.....
BI=TWO
LINGUAL=TOUNGES/LANGUAGES
So bi-lingual means you can speak 2 languages. NO mention of SPANISH!! !! ! And HEY, they have an easier time learning english than Americans have even learning spanish. English speaking people WANT to speak english to everyone in the US, and there is LOTS of english reading material.
But MOST foreigners, outside of mexicans, DO learn, or have learned, english even though some of their languages are even MORE foreign!
well i used to work in the grocery industry as well, checker, stocker, bagger, pretty much every position.
People who think employees are mean in the grocery industry or uneducated really need to get a whipping. if you don't work in the grocery industry, do not say anything bad about them until you have worked in the grocery industry. we have to follow specific procedure when it comes to customers or they risk getting written up and fired. Gat (Greet, anticipate, take to the item) and not only that but we had to clean up after customers who knock over a liquor bottle and shatters 5 times a day on the floor. .
Its not fun constantly being asked by customers where stuff is when we are actually trying to clean something up or doing our job description, and being graded by mystery shoppers, even on bad stressful days.
not only that but you also have to understand that employers can mess with your schedule, and sleeping problems. switching you from grave yard shift to mornings to days every other day, working 40+ hours a week.it's complete stressful hell.
both the customer and employee has to deal with crap, before you bash a employee you should think about how employers treat there employees, it really shouldn't be about employees but employers who think they can screw there employees lifes up.
