well, I really have excellent general knowledge, to be honest. I guess it's probably because I've gone through so many obsessions that I've got most all subjects covered :D I read books and surf the internet for information just about 12 hours solid per day. :) I'm a compulsive learner. :D

That's me alright. There are only a few subjects I can't relate to, mostly sports, travel and recent popular music.

It still doesn't make me a great conversationalist, though. :(

In some cases mine is. I find that I know a lot of things no one else knows but don't know things everyone seems to.

Its great to know a few people here are similar.

I wonder if its possible to become obsessed with lots of different obessions.

No, not substantially less, anyway. Just different. Having a conversation with me is like going to the library and asking for some best seller, but the librarian doesn't have that one so they offer something completely different that they think might relate to the best seller in some way. It doesn't mean my library has less books, just not the books that most people expect.

Thats just like me! However I have become so self aware about my obsessiosn and knowledge that I feel embarrassed when I talk about it at a high level of detail because people just think im weird. So then I actually appear that I know nothing!

Thats why my general knowledge isn't limited. I read a lot since I don't have anything else to do.

I choked on my reply because I had to stop and make sure that if I said 'Hillary' that I wasn't pissing off an Obama fan in the room. I ended up saying nothing because either way I answered I was in for an argument.

Oh well, there IS no democratic party anyway! It is the DEMOCRAT party! And Clinton and Jackson, BOTH members of the democrat party said rule by the majority is TYRANNY! That is NOT democratic!

Oh, and for what it's worth I'm pretty high up on the general knowledge ladder. Pretty good at Jeopardy and all.

You're right, EVEN though they often CLAIM it IS a democracy.

And my general knowledge is pretty good also, I just recognize limits, and don't claim to know everything. People used to claim I thought that and STILL act like they think that sometimes, but that is only because I know a lot.

I know a LOT of useless trivia. I love learning about stuff. Unfortunately my day-to-day general knowledge is somewhat lacking.

Right now, I'm fascinated by the American Presidential race. I know a HUGE amount about the candidates and politics. Whereas I know next to nothing about English/British politics. I just about know which party is in power and that's about this. And I'm British :D

No, my general knowledge is not limited. I have always got complimented and got additional points for excellent general knowledge.

I have trouble keeping up with the general knowledge of my own peers though. About films, popular music and VIPs. I never knew about the latest charts and about all those films the teens to 20yos know.

I don't know what's going on inside that brain of mine. My general knowledge is good, since I used to read lots of trivia books. I still like to broaden my general knowledge instead of just concentrating on a few topics, so I would say it's average, if not better.

The problem starts when I try to think more deeply and analyse topics which I don't know much about, such as politics. I would end up saying virtually nothing in a discussion involving politics because the superficial knowledge that I do have about it simply isn't enough. Some people can launch into long debates and have great discussions that flow smoothly and last for a long time - I can never do that, even with a subject that I know a lot about.

I honestly feel like my brain's been working in second gear for the last few years.
