They do know at work but no one really knows what it is other then I forget names and don't look in their eyes, (and like to get on the floor and wrestle the dogs 8O ...pretty weird for a 44 year old).

The important thing is that you know and it helps you except your "quirks" as part of your unique neurology.

Krex, if you don't mind my asking, how did you tell work you have AS? Did you just tell your boss or just people you work with? I have really thought about telling some people I work with and get along good but I'm just too afraid to. I sure wouldn't tell my boss but sometimes think about it just to see if my prediction of her reaction would be correct.

Droopy,

I work at a pet hotel and we had several books for people that were waiting to read. I brought in "All Cats Have Aspergers" and asked my boss if it was OK for me to put it in the waiting room because I have AS and thought it had some cute cat pictures and god information about children who have AS. It turned out that she as a nephew with aspergers and another co-worker has a sister with AS 8O . There is also another co-worker who works with kids with AS,so it seems a small world after all.

I don't really talk about it much but I thought I think her knowing about it makes her a bit more patient with some of my quircks, I do try and work hard and have asked for no accomidations. I have only had a few problems with her but they are the same ones that everyone has with her. I think she maybe a bit aspie herself as she has the worst people skills of any manager I have ever worked for....she is always screaming at people and having melt-downs. Obviously, I don't know her well enough to DX her but...she certainly has somethiing odd going on in her communication skills.

I think GRASP might have a "thing" you can print out for a manager that explains some of the traits related to work. I know my biggest issues are following directions when they are counter-productive and illogical, social time with co-workers which I can mostly avoid by staying busy, and not being given very clearly defined and specific or written tasks. I have memory issues that may have nothing to do with AS, so I use a lot of memo stick-ups for myself and if someone gives me more then one instruction at a time(frequent there)...I am likely to forget one or more. If you can write down your specific issues it might help her understand what your problems are...helps to be specific. Good lcuk.
