Well, she found some, but I'm not sure how much of it to take...

She got fish oil and flax oil...I'm pretty sure I just need one or the other, and not both?

The flax oil says to take two of them a day, 1000 mg each.

The fish oil says three a day, 1000 mg each.

Maybe I'll just start off with one a day and see what happens?

And I've got multi-vitamins for the other good stuff.

It does depend on what you take.

The cheaper they are, generally the worse they're going to be - you pay for what you get. A lot of the cheaper vitamin tablets are either:
- Difficult to absorb and therefore not bioavailable, so pretty much a waste of time
- Also can be not overly good for you if they're the synthetic form (you need to learn to read the label to see, for example, with vitamin E if it's labelled dl-alpha/beta/etc-tocopheryl then it's synthetic and not good for you, whereas d-alpha-tocopheryl is natural and great)
- Often contain additives that aren't great, or are derived from cheap and often GM crops such as soy

(Soy is NOT good for you in any way, shape or form. Fermented stuff like tofu is ok in small doses, but beyond that it's a recipe for disaster for your thyroid).

Fish oil you need to be careful of, as a lot of fish these days contain high levels of mercury - thank you, pollution - which is obviously not what you want to be taking in. So you need to check the refinement processes of the company and how they do it all to get the best stuff you can. I personally use flax-seeds on salad for Omega 3.

Also, just make sure you get lots of Vitamin C - 2g or 3g a day - in a buffered, preferably liquid/capsule form. You can't overdose but it'll make a big difference to your overall health.

While we're on the topic of supplements, everyone, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to this site, read up, and do what you can to stop it happening!!

www.stopc51.com

Canada is seeking to ban or severely restrict ALL forms of natural medicine and supplements that aren't from big pharma. Seriously. The scope even goes as far as potentially prosecuting people for growing things like dandelion for herbal tea for their own use, or mothers giving their kids honey and lemon for a cold.

I'll probably try it, my boss keeps telling me to take B vitamins and Omegas also.

I live in the US but that bill is very scary. A smilar situation/mind set was the cause of many "wise-women", who practiced herbal healing, being burned at the stake a few hundred years ago because they took customers away from the "certified DRs and pharamcies" who were still leaching and selling very toxic medicines as "cures" . It looks like we haven't come very far.

It absolutely terrifies me to see this happening. Something similar is being pushed in NZ that would mean a joint Australia-New Zealand regulation authority with very similar intents and aims. We're all up for a huge fight in the next few years against this as the tides start to turn away from pharmaceuticals and towards a more holistic view of health, and it's not just those of us in the natural healthcare field - it's every single parent trying to heal their kid, every single person wanting to supplement a bit of Vitamin C, every single person wanting to have any inch of control over their health.

Well, it says it contains anchovy and sardine oils, and it says it's mercury free, so I think I'm pretty set there. I'm just not sure how much of it I should take a day, and whether or not I should also take the flax oil (and how much of that).

They HAVE spoken about similar measures in the US!! ! I don't know what has happened yet, but a few years ago, they were all up in arms and SCARED!

HECK, several years ago it became a FELONY to buy/sell/use prohormones. Don't worry though, towards the end it exempts female hormone/prohormone products. The language is VERY vague and all encompasing. WHO KNOWS what it will end up covering.

Anyway, prohormones were starting to show promise. They were coming out with sexually neutral(Ones that would allow women to still be feminine, and not cause atrophy in males) products that would have some of the OTHER benefits, like increased tissue growth.

And people are STILL selling garbage(sometimes LITERALLY garbage) as "supplements"! That hurts the ability for the REAL supplement industry to survive under its protective status. After all, those products ARE drugs, by definition.

Supplements/medication/food/water/air/everything else in your physical environment= chemicals. Wither we digest, inject, breath or they are transdermally absorbed...they DO something to your body even if your body can't use it and your liver just filters it out of your system and eliminates it as waste product. The supplement industry is huge and not properly monitored..the solution is not to get rid of it but monitor it better. (Financially punish companies that sell worthless products and you would probably eliminate 50% of all products sold to people, eliminate things that are bad for us and that would probably be another 25%.) To use this as justification for getting rid of herbal remedies or supplements is a "straw man" invented by pharma industry and pushed by the government officials who benefit from their lobbies "political donations". As long as we allow these government officials to benefit by limiting our choices to health care, we are the losers.

During a time when many countries are struggling to fund affordable health care, to eliminate any affordable option is economic suicide for the majority and benefits the "few"....... follow the money. "Anyone who does not learn from the past is destined to repeat it".
