Interesting. Socio-cultural factors may have a way of nurturing how an individual's neurological differences are revealed and accepted?
Due to how power and privilege is distributed in a society, the minority community may adopt a set of "us vs. them" survivalist principles which include the importance of community cohesion. This survivalist mentality coupled with the importance of community cohesion may offset the "openness" of neurological differences, forcing the individual on the spectrum to break out of his/her autistic shell more often and develop more mimicry or trial-and-error strategies, effectively camaflouging themselves better.
I've also heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." This is probably especially relevant to a child on the spectrum as the more effective role models the child has to learn from, the more effective strategies the child has to draw from. I'll hazard to say that a minority community is set on a default "village" model due to a necessary survivalist and cohesian ethic that more or less is adopted as a defensive measure. The more privileged, majority community probably has had enough power and resources over time to do away with the "village model" and create a self-conscious meritocracy that effectively recognizes and perhaps marginalizes the "aberrations" in their own community.
I have no evidence readily available to me in regards to all this but I do like to hypothesize when inspired.
