Can you interpret songs (or anything)?

Songs with innuendoes in I never pick up, they can stare me in the face and I would still miss them.
I cannot tell what a song is about from just listening though, I would have to read it.

Are you sure the problem with Chaucer isn't just the fact that he wrote in Middle English? I have no problem with Canterbury Tales as long as I am reading a Modern English translation, Middle English is pretty much incomprehensible to me. Beowulf in the original Old English looks German to me! Generally any pre-Shakespeare English Literature needs to be translated into Modern English if I want to understand it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who had that problem with "Gatsby". My goodness, the green light bit? I hadn't a clue. I had to use Sparknotes/Cliffsnotes whenever teachers wanted "symbol analysis".

I did finally (after 20+ years of hearing the song) figure out kinda what Foghat's "Slow Ride" was talking about. Most innuendo goes *whoosh* over my head no matter how much I hear it.

I can interpret songs, poetry, and literature just fine as long as I get a chance to read, hear it a few times. My big problem is turning my interpretation into an essay.
