This is a HUGE problem of mine, it's probably THE issue holding me back. People seem to have this moronic assumption that menial jobs are "simple" and thus if you can't do those menial jobs you probably won't be able to work in better jobs, either. I was deemed ineligible for a state-run vocational scholarship for people with disabilities because of this stupid assumption. What a bunch of morons, just because I have trouble working at McDonald's or Wal-Mart doesn't mean I would have trouble working in a lab or in Academia. :x

Even worse, having to do something uninteresting for work all day leaves me too mentally exhausted to do anything productive, resulting in a viscous circle that holds me back.

I've had this problem all throughout my academic life... Makes school a painful experience.

Last semester I had to do a paper on a short story... that I just could not get myself interested in. It's like my brain refuses to process this information, nothing sticks and I gravitate towards gathering info on unrelated topics. Ultimately I just BSed my way through the paper(which was still hard to do anyway).
It was a crap paper I wrote, but I still passed the class.
But yeah, that's a fine example of the situation I keep having. It's not like I waited til the last minute either, I struggled to make something of it for a week's time.

So far this sort of hasn't impacted my jobs too much.

It's taken me a couple of months longer than everyone else to get into revising mode at school. Probably'll get As anyway, but it's challenging now.
