I did gain (or recognize) some traits at this age. I never noticed myself stacking things or lining things up until middle school...my social anxieties got a lot worse (not necessarily an AS thing, but it sure doesn't make things easier)...um...probably some other things I can't think of.

But I definitely have a lot of other traits that have been around since birth.

This is odd that I'm seeing a topic like this, but yes; I feel that this is extremely possible.
Maybe not a sudden boom, but a signifigant one.
I think I went through a bit of this at age 13, where others started growing up, but I fell behind.
I latched on to others and began copying them. (It's my way of compensating for social downfalls)
The next summer I went back to the same me, confined with nothing to do but read anime and play games. Of course, I love this - but I lack friends.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I think I'm being taken advantage of now (age 15) by a boy in grade 11. He began bugging me, and I was looking for a friend...so I did the most logical thing possible and became his friend. He would listen to me, and he was nice to me; but when I stayed the night at his house I found him on me when I woke up. I immediately left and took my stuff. This sucks because he was my only actual "friend."

Sorry about the above ranting session, but I guess it goes along with adoloscence because I am one. :D

[quote="northern_light_girl"]Have you ever heard of this...or experienced this? Being an almost "normal" child, outgoing, with low to reasonable socializing skills and good grades in school (basically with very, very low manifestaton of AS symptoms)...and then when hittng puberty, boom...out of the blue you can't do almost anything you used to do (becoming unable to socialize at all, becoming unable to even talk or pronounce words, problems concentrating, problems understanding or finishing tasks, memory loss, problems with short term memory, long DELAYS between hearing a question, processing info and answering, FORGETTING what you are talking about in the middle of the sentence etc..)

Hello!
I realize this post is 4 years old, but on the off chance that you are still able to see this, I had to respond.
My son was a relatively "normal" kid until age seven. Although, he hadn't entered puberty at the time, he did change suddenly and started to experience many of the same symptoms you mentioned (even the memory loss which really alarmed me). He took a long time to process questions, started having trouble concentrating and finishing his schoolwork, became defiant and uncooperative, and stopped making friends. Sometimes he'd be telling a story and start to stammer terribly. Then he would just say, "Nevermind," and stop telling the story.

We've been dealing with this for a year and will hopefully have some answers soon. He's having trouble getting through the evaluations because of it, but the doctors/therapists we have talked to think he may very well have Asperger's Syndrome. Maybe he's always had it and it just was not evident to any of us.

Yours is the first message I've seen that mentions a sudden onset of symptoms. I was hoping an expert would respond to your post, because when I mention the sudden onset to the experts around here, they just nod and say nothing. I just want to know if this is a known thing with Asperger's! I'm glad we're not the only ones who have experienced it.

Thanks for posting! I hope you and the person you spoke to got some answers!

I know very little about it, but have you also looked into Disintegrative Disorder?
