People are really paranoid nowadays. After a point we end up sacrificing our freedom to protect our "freedom". If we don't accept that we can't prevent every possible crime without destroying the very ideals we are trying to defend then we could wind up under a totalitarian government of our own creation.

Hehe, my boyfriend get stopped/searched every time he flies internationally. Which is awkward because he usually has bizarre scifi writing and research books on him

Aack, airports make me nervous. Just being in a place full of people is enough, but when the employees are watching people it's worse. Seriously, I get weird looks sometimes for being so jittery, and I just look like a timid teenager! Excessive paranoia... I would probably never take my laptop with me for fear they would search and/or confiscate it.
My mother is always stopped when my family goes to airports. We assume it's because she looks vaguely Middle-Eastern, though she is Hispanic. Racial profiling is annoying.

I mainly travel by amtrak, sure it costs more and takes a lot longer, but the security isn't nearly as invasive. Plus you get to see the whole country, and you can get up and walk around all you want. And on most long distance trains, if you can afford the extra 300 bucks, you can get your own room where you can close the door and the curtain.

I haven't flown, and I'm not going to fly [except for when it's required] (see: Rain Man); ma got me a medical bracelet for Autism, which is for situations that involve authority figures when I'm overwhelmed and can't respond.
