Sarcasm is rarely as witty or effective as the wielder believes... if necessary, I prefer to be sarcaustic - more biting, less vague.

I love sarcasm, in moderation. You have to own up to your mistakes, but friends should be able to tease each other, and very witty friends can make hilarious comments via sarcasm.
It's a good defense mechanism when someone's being a jerk to you. But it shouldn't be used for bad unless it's truly warranted.

I don't think I've ever used it to avoid admitting a mistake, and I'm pretty sarcastic at times...

I like useing sarcasm, while I use it often people think that my sarcastic jokes are funny and I can confuse others. But I won't use it to avoid saying that I made a mistake unless I did something realy bad, something that anyone would try to get a good reason other then I am aspergers. One of my favirout things to do is like when my mum asks me a question but is given finds the answer anyway, I will actualy say the opposite, like: "are you asleep?" "yes", or "Is there any juice made up?" *the empty container is within easy view* "yes". Even though my sarcastic answers are done as tthey are impossible my dad and sister does not pick up on the fact that I was being sarcastic.

I'm cynical, observant and have a good sense of sarcastic wit, but I'm too indifferent to most people to use it often.

But I agree there are multiple types/degrees of sarcasm:

The one you use jokingly between friends to take someone down a notch.
The one you used as light impersonal witty remarks (plenty of those even in this thread).
The one you use to hurt someone you don't like with very personal insulting remarks.
(I haven't bothered to give it much further thought: perhaps there are more distinctions).

It irritates the Sh1t out of me how sarcastic people use their sarcasm to get out of admitting that they're wrong and/or they said something they shouldnt have said. I dont buy this bullsh1t that sarcasm is a personality trait, its not. But the thing is that sarcasm is a fairly easy social game to learn and it seems to be one of the ONLY social games that aspies learn and when they do learn it they use it constantly. :x

Yikes. I guess I'll try not to be sarcastic around you, then.
