I have problems understanding everything everyone is saying if I don't know them or they aren't my teacher. It's kind of weird. For example I work part time at a shoe store and somebody asked me today which pair of shoes cost thirteen dollars. I responded by saying "Okay, so you want a size thirteen in these shoes?"

I've always known that I have trouble filtering -- three separate conversations, TV, stereo, in one room, all at once... And trouble with accents.
And auditory memory in general. If I can get away with it, I scribble just to stay focused. (Sometimes they think I'm taking notes.)

But jumbling? I just thought they were jerks, mumbling. You mean it's me?
Same thing with that beginning-of-a-sentence thing when I'm not ready. I figured they were just jerks. I need a minute to wrap up the old thought before I can listen to a new one.
I knew it wasn't me, because I can hear the phone next door when no one else can.

um... that is perhaps less than perfectly cool.
If you ever need to know about the fifth amendment...

Don't you have something comparable to the fifth amendment?

Yes, frequently. When someone is speaking to me, it is very common for me to hear words incorrectly. For instance, I could very easily mistake the words "you must be hard of hearing" to "you must have hid the ceiling," or something similar.

Wow, I thought I was the only person who experiences this. Oftentimes when this happens people will speak to me much louder as if I'm deaf or, especially with my mom, she'll tell me to "listen with your ears." That pisses me off because not only is that a condescending statement, but the fact is, I am listening. And people don't need to speak to me like I'm deaf as I'm not hard of hearing. For some reason there are times when someone will speak very clearly and I still won't hear the words correctly. I'll then ask them to repeat what they said and that's when they'll speak really loud to me.

Well, we do, but a different culture. We're not sue-happy like in America or other countries.
