Childhood dread topic

A blank TV screen (I could see the pattern on the picture tube which was more exposed than the ones in teh the later years up unitl Plasma and LCD)

The curtains on the bedroom window

What went on under the bed at night

Bedtime. I hated the darkness and silence. (Now I enjoy it. :) )

I had a morbid fear of the theme song to the movie 2001.

I was terrorstricken every time they played it on Sesame Street (I think it was introducing some letter of the alphabet; a recurring segment). I would run away into my room and close the door.

Once my brother had to carry out of an Ice Capades because a performance featured that song. OF COURSE they cut out all the lights and started flashing red spotlights everywhere and turned the music up REALLY LOUD. I don't remember anything else about that performance except that moment.

Parking garages, like the kind at a mall.
I also had an extreme fear of needles, to the extent where I tried to jump out of the car on the way to the doctor's office.

i wasn't.....stuck my right index finger right into one before I was 2 years old...got real nice and acquainted with one another..

i do remember being afraid of the wallpaper in this one girl's bedroom....they were teddy bears in tutus.

I was also afraid of this bright light sort of shadow that cast at the foot of the first set of stairs on this sort of landing thing in my parent's old house....i thought it was a big, fluffy white cat. terrifying.

some other things too probably..can't remember now..

oh yeah! definately toilets....and the holes in the bottoms of sinks.....this fear didn't lessen after seeing IT when I was too young  ...i'd close up the sink drains before using the toilet and then afterwards i'd slam the toilet shut and run out of the bathroom. i think a lot of kids exposed to IT at a young age may have done something similar to this..

now I don't like whales. went on a whale watching dealy while I was living in Quebec one summer....we went out on a little zodiak boat...no seat belts or anything...not much to grab onto other than the strangers sitting next to you..not to mention is was freezing cold and raining.. we saw a ton of whales...even those neat ones that look like sea unicorns of somesort (norwhales?....had to keep a distance tho..) BUT that didn't scare me....a GIANT whale..with barnacles and everything surfaced and the water sucking back made our boat seem like it was about to capsize....we could touch the barnacles...which was cool...but whales are too big. i'd go again to watch sea birds...but i'd be on a bigger boat  ...perhaps capt. Ahab at my side... ...... .....maybe not even then...i don't like to not be able to see land..

ok..i wrote too much..i always write too much and then feel like a nerd.. 8O :bounce:

I used to be afraid of toilets... I thought there was a bum biter in the toilet, so I always wanted to have the door open in case I needed to escape from a bum biter...

I was also terrified of drains....I could not be in the bath tub when the plug was pulled. I was also scared of spiders coming out of drains or the toliet. I still am scared at night to go to the bathroom without the light on because of this very same thing. I was scared of basements and would have reoccuring nightmares about falling down the stairs. I was also afraid of pictures of Jesus...of all things....he just looks freaky to me. Actually, for me, there was a lot of fear and anxiety surrounding religion. I was able to let go of that when I was in my 20s.

Huh... I was terrified of needles too--actually that kept on until I was maybe eighteen or so. At eleven, I bolted and had to be chased around a hospital so they could draw blood. I think it took five people to hold me down... I can't remember exactly how many; I wasn't really counting!

I was afraid of Chucky until I was about 16, no joke. Then I watched one of the movies and I thought "that was stupid".

I was scared of the old fashioned, claw-footed bathtub. I thought it was a living being, who would carry me off and devour me. I was also afraid of the reflection that the space heater made on the wall. I thought it was some sort of alien communication waiting to happen. Maybe my parents shouldn't have allowed us kids to watch "Outer Limits."

Other things: Being able to see a mirror in the dark. Still don't like it. Lumpy shapes underneath cloth, like a pillow beneath a blanket, etc. Dark basements. Bugs. Street cleaners.

I don't recall many of my early childhood fears, but at the present, I cannot stand within three feet of a microwave, and i cannot stand any distance in front of or behind a microwave. I frantically jump out of the way when I have to turn one on.

What's even weirder is the self-injury habit I've had, in some form, since about age six. Don't ask me to explain that one. It's probably a control thing.
