Palin and Autism
The election is on November 4 and the Inauguration is on January 20.
I didn't need anyone to "seal the deal." The issues are what they are, and Palin will not make them go away. We have a fabricated war, the constitution is in shreds, the economy is near collapse...
I like to call myself an independent, but come on.
It would be humanly impossible for any Republican to get anything done after these past eight years of abuse, neglect, gross incompetence and corruption. Given the tools of the President of the United States, my grandmother could have managed better.
What we need is a tribunal for Bush on January 21st.

Like Dr. Seuss said, "This mess is so big and so deep and so tall, we can not pick it up, there is no way at all."

Was the Iraqi war ever outright proven to be a fabrication? I know it was based on intelligence that turned out to be faulty, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was faked.
And at the end of the day you can't lay all the blame on Bush himself. The President may have more power then any other individual but he really can't be blamed for every single thing that has gone wrong. It's very easy to blame him, but that ignores the simple fact that our government includes many different components. I'm not saying that a lot of things didn't go wrong in Bush's presidency because that is undeniable, but that doesn't mean all of those things can be pinned directly on Bush.

The American economy is **NOT** in near collapse. As credit crises go, this most recent one is by any measure mild. Markets go up and markets go down, the housing market is no different. No one has the right to expect that real estate prices will increase forever; people in Singapore and Hong Kong who thought that property prices could only go up have spent the last 10 years learning otherwise. Even with the foreclosures that are taking place, people still need a place to live and most communities will only be mildly affected by what has happened.
Contrary to what some people think, the war in Iraq is perhaps the first meaningful engagement by the U.S. military since WWII. It is naïve to believe that money alone gives you the right to have access to something as vital as oil. The rise of America as a global industrial and military power is also the story of oil. People forget that oil is very much a recent discovery – it was only in the late 19th century that sources and uses of oil were found. There are those who like to mark human history by the grand ideas put forth by thinkers like Darwin and Marx, but I think that the historians in the distant future will mark our historical turning point with the pre-oil and the post-oil era. The difference between the two periods could not be anymore starker. Before the discovery of oil, human beings hunted whales for their natural oils to be used as lubricant. Without oil, none of us would get to eat the foods we have come to believe as our birthright or even engage in the most basic forms of modern life. How can you believe that something so important is not worth fighting for?
Everywhere I turn it seems that people are talking about Palin. All of a sudden this campaign is no longer about a black guy running for president but about a woman with a Down Syndrome baby and a pregnant teenage daughter running for vice-president. The selection for Palin as McCain's running mate has so far been brilliant. The momentum towards Obama has been broken.
McCain's VP choice appears to be an attempt to propitiate the Evangelical Taliban, who found his level of religious fanaticism to be deficient, because he had not spoken out in support of compulsory religious indoctrination in public schools, as well as public floggings and executions. She is very much in line with the right wing lunatics. Given that we live in a theocracy ( not so different from Iran or Saudi Arabia ), it is likely that her selection was a politically wise choice.
It was, after all, the Taliban who propelled her to the governorship of Alaska 2 years ago, even though she had no experience other than being a stay at home Bible thumping mom. As a running mate for McCain, she will be a very effective tool in pandering to the abysmal stupidity of the American public.
Intellectually, she is right on par with McCain, who as a younster, only managed to get into the Naval Academy because his father was an admiral, and ended up graduating 2nd to last in a class of about 500. He is competition with the man he hopes to succeed for being the slowest thinking mammal on the planet.
Being of very limited intellect and coming from a military family tradition, he believes that war is the solution to all of humanity's problems. His statement saying that he was prepared to occupy Irak for another century is remminiscent of similar claims made by Hitler made about the pedicted lifespan of the 3rd reich. Rest assured that if elected, he will launch a unilateral attack on Iran.

That's a bit of an exaggeration.
But I agree that Palin is not intended to appeal to the independents or the Hillary people.
Then again, it's good to hear someone say something nice about the NRA for a change.
I have a sentimental thing about the Constitution, myself.

I think it shouldn't be enough for her to say that she HAD the baby with Downs Syndrome - the true test is whether she'll advocate for services for and acceptance of other people, all people rich or poor, with cognitive (as well as physical) disabilities. Because, although yes, many people who abort children with mental disabilities do so for selfish reasons, it could just as easily be the case that they do so because they can't handle or afford the extra responsibilities that will come with raising such a child, and the chances that said baby will get adopted with their condition are abysmal. Before we can worry about saving the fetuses, we have to worry about making it easier, hell, even possible, for all people everywhere to raise such children once they're out of the womb without having them die or fall through the cracks.
That being said, I do wish that both sides would focus on the issues and merits of the candidates as leaders rather than resorting to pulling heartstrings and character assassination. I don't care how many children, what kind of children, what kind of spouse or partner or anything else a candidate has. I want to know what they believe, what they plan to do about it and how they intend to carry it out. The rest, short of them being a sociopathic serial killer or something else extremely dangerous to society, is irrelevant and seems manipulative to bring up. Unfortunately, it seems McCain's choice overall was just one of PR rather than for the sake of substance. Even more unfortunately, many people will buy into it anyways.

Obama on the Mama topic
I was watching on CNN (at about the time Gustav was downgraded to a tropical storm) and The B man stated that kids should not be brought into the debate. Families are private, according to Obama, so whether Palin has a pregnant teen or a baby with special needs should not enter into any debate.

Why is everyone talking about the personal lives of the presidential candidates ???! !!
Here noone even knows the name of the prime minister's wife nor has seen her.
What does theyr personal life have to do with anything unless they've commited some great crime in the past. Here we discuss theyr opinions on issues instead....
I guess preidential candidates over there get treated the same as celebritys lol.
Agreed. Ever since McCain announced that Palin would be his VP running mate, that's all everyone's been talking about. I'm a conservative Democrat who will probably vote for McCain in the end(and not because he suddenly added Palin to the ticket). I think a lot of the criticism against the poor woman and her daughter is uncalled-for. I also think it's awfully funny that Obama has only 160 (roughly) actual days in the Senate before running for Prez (the rest of it has been spent on the campaign trail). Palin has over 550 days as an elected Governor of a state. She was a mayor before that for several years. The Obama camp is trying to compare running his multi-million dollar campaign to Palin's mayoral budget rather laughable --as if running a campaign is the same as executive experience! I don't think so... Obama isn't running his own campaign, anyway - the Democratic Party is.
Palin may not be 'quite ready' to be president, either, but her creds are more extensive than Obama's when it comes to executive experience. In fact, she has more executive experience than Obama, Biden and even McCain, on paper. The Obama campaign is making a mistake by trying to highlight Palin's inexperience. In a sense, it makes Obama's look even worse by comparison. I agree with some of the other posters here - the Dems seem to be afraid of Palin, otherwise they wouldn't be making such attacks. The way the Democratic party treats female candidates is despicable, and the media is no better. CNN and MSNBC's relentless coverage of Bristol Palin's pregnancy is both silly and disgusting. I mean, in this day and age, who cares?

Yeah, politics has been described as Celebrity, for ugly people.

amazing hos independent republicans can be interviewed at the convention on BBC saying that I don't know her (Palin) so well, but I htink she is genuine....
Why would one want to interview someone who doesn't know her and still have an opinion on her.
PAlin remains a Bible thumping evangelical Taliban..adn Obama has proven his worth in standing by in projects in society even before he ran his campaign.
