Truly, Aspies are a varied bunch. The one thing I have noticed that most Aspies have in common is a wicked sense of humor, once you get to know them, usually very dry, which I like.

I happen to enjoy being around folks on the spectrum. I'm sort of geek, an information junkie, a technologist (all in my previous career), and so enjoy geeking. I'm also a strong visual, which many Aspies are. Most of all, though, I find spectrum folks very warm -- sometimes in a quirky way, yes -- but incredibly kind and loyal at heart.

The things that people say about me:
That I am:

"Smart but stupid" ("An educated idiot" was the term someone once used.)

"Different"

and

"Completely my own person"

My dad was an "absent-minded professor".

I don't have much of an idea that's objective, as only a small amount of people have actually told me how I am to them.

"Slow", "empty", "calm and gentle", and "intelligent" by most other people who've told me. The former couple were usually by peers ("slow" and "empty"); the latter few by adults/professionals.

Ha-ha. No doubt, when people see me they have no idea where it is I belong. I can assume that most assume my IQ is low. Ironically it is much higher than most of theirs. I can say without a doubt in most areas I surpass the typical intelligence. I excell at writing. That is my favorite intellectual activity. I should go in business assisting college students with their term papers.

I am excellent at detecting patterns, most of the time. My biggest problem is a social one. Other people put obstacles in my way because they simply don't or won't understand or they make assumptions and lie based on these erroneous assumptions. Not fair:(

Weird, otherworldly and from outer space. Somehow scaring and nonsensical.

Although I've been also seen as smart, MR, emotional, cold... autism seems to make it quite hard for other people to really identify my character through my autistic (and thus to them unfamiliar) actions.

People can't seem to identify me, form a definite opinion on me or 'get to know me', because they perceive my behaviour as 'insane' in the sense of that it seems to follow no normal or logical guidelines. People always thought I'm emotionally disturbed or have an identity crises because my autistic behaviour makes no sense to them often.

Of course... if you freak out in a loud classroom in which everybody else is having fun, start to cry, scream or freeze or run away, everyone thinks you're off your rocker.

Or if you're fascinated by a building you see and you absolutely will not let anything disturb you while looking at it.

Or if you can be sweet in one situation but rude (too truthful, overloaded, confused), most people can't make sense of you.

Or if you speak confident but have a total inappropriate body language.

Or if you appear not-so-intelligent to a teacher, but always do perfect work because actually you have the most easy time to learn and do school stuff.

People seem to have trouble figuring me out.

If somebody knows a lot about autism though, I am easy to get to know (because I'm quite open).

I am not really sure what they think of me..They don't generally tell me...sometimes I get treated like a child by people who are younger than me.

I have gotten the impression from more than one NT that they think I am drunk or on drugs when i am not.

They have made comments like "I want whatever you're smoking"...blah blah blah...
I get that quite alot...

my NT sister used to complain that I walked around at school like I was on drugs...

I had an acquaintance in elementary school who said she was not allowed to talk to me because her grandmother observed me and thought I looked like I was on drugs...

Other than that... I am really not sure...

emotionally immature

cold and distant

goofy

walking encyclopedia

detached from reality

antisocial / won't shut up (just extremes, nothing moderate)

theatrical

that's just some of the things I heard from friends and colleagues. none of them knows I'm under the spectrum (yet).

LOL I get that a lot too. I'm quite wide-eyed and a bit slow to respond when asked randomly on the street, I guess that might be it but not sure myself to be honest ;p

sorry for posting a honest question :(

I wasn't trying to jump on you at all, it's just this kind of question comes up a lot on here where people are like 'NTS ARE LIKE THIS, WE ARE LIKE THAT' or worse yet 'I HATE HOW NTS DO THIS.'

I haven't come up against a single NT who's descriminated against me for my condition, becuase my reputation does not precede me. They liked me already and me being autistic makes no difference to them because I didn't change. This is why I don't broadcast that I have Asperger's unless it's necessary.

Another thing I have gotten is that some NT's seem to think I am incredibly innocent... 8O
I will freak people out if I use curse words or make any sort of off-color joke because I seem somehow incapable.....There was the time when the bartender at Flakey's parents bar asked me to say bad words because she couldn't imagine those kinds of words coming out of my "sweet little mouth"...I found it very condescending....and I had to explain to her that I curse as much as any other adult...

I have been mocked and teased for seeming like this cute sweet innocent thing...it is really annoying...

People will often ask my advice on stuff....there is an assumption made that I am sort of expert on random topics, and so i get asked about lots of stuff.....
