Try looking it up on google if you don't know what dexedrine is, and if you don't know what pacing is, well its a stim which is a repetitive behavior some aspies have.

Pace: To walk back and forth repetitively.

Caffeine helps ADHD because, like Ritalin, it is a stimulant. Stimulants probably help the brain to be more efficient in some way, including the part of the brain that regulates attention.

Caffeine is not as likely as Ritalin to help somebody with ADHD; but if your ADHD is mild or the prescribed stimulants don't work, it might actually be a better choice.

The only problem with caffeine is that you can get addicted. That means weekends off, unless you want it to lose its effectiveness.

Nowadays I cannot live without caffeine I really love that stuff!

why would caffeine help you with these issuese?

Because of the ADHD. I function much better after I take two No Doze.

Dexedrine didn't make me hyper, either. I became glazy instead.

Yeah, Aspies often have weird reactions to things. I think our brains invent new side effects that nobody else seems to have, half the time.

Not uncommon to feel "zombie"-like on Ritalin, especially on too high a dose, though, despite it being a stimulant. I think it's one of those annoying reverse reactions but I'm not sure, because it is meant to decrease hyperactivity, so...

Have heard of Aspies for whom Ritalin only works in very, very small doses--like a tenth of the normal dose. Most doctors don't think of drug sensitivity...

That's so funny you mentioned "zombie" because my mom told me, once, that I was zombie-like on the Dexedrine and had to switch to Ritalin instead.

I used to use stimulants (legally, and with a prescription, if there's any doubt...) and would seriously consider going back on if I had medical insurance and could afford it. I'm not ADHD, but I have a lot of memory problems and felt more like a neurotypical person on them as well, which definitely helps me function in the real world.

If you get bad side effects, or feel too jittery on stimulants, you can try a slow or extended release format. That usually solves a lot of the problems, especially for people who are sensitive to drugs.

I've often wondered if I should still be on them. When I was a kid I hated being on Ritalin because I had to take it at school and was the only one there on it and felt self conscious about it.

For me, it was bad. It turned me into a zombie. Luckily, my mom stopped it right away.

I've also been considering Ritalin. I've recently switched from a physical high school to an online one. So I don't have someone watching over me to make sure that I do my work. But I'm having trouble concentrating, so I haven't been doing much in my more boring classes. I try to work on it, but I get distracted and end up doing something else. It seems like Ritalin would be very beneficial in this situation...I've never taken any psychoactives for medical purposes though...
