It was hard for the first two years. I was a grade ahead in two subjects and didn't know anyone in those classes, plus the whole transition was disorienting. To make it worse, we moved up the hill in the summer between grades 9 and 10 and I had a much longer walk to school, which meant having to eat lunch at school for the first time. That was really hard.
But in Grade 11 we had a new band leader who expected all senior music students to be in the band, and it became fun. I hung out with other people in the band, we had dry parties with good music, and I was actually popular towards the end. I cried when I had to graduate.
Then I started all over again at university.
