It doesn't hurt me, so much as make me squirm - but I get everything else. The sensation of someone whispering in my ear is creepy - and I can't understand either (the sibilance covers everything up.) Also, if someone is talking a few desks away & they have a sibilant voice - I hear the buzz & it drives me nuts. Part of that is the feeling that they are gossiping, but the buzz is the worst - I can hear it even over all the various manufacturing sounds going on around me.

In a related issue, there's a guy at work who likes to flip one of the new dollar coins, which makes a sort of whispering sound that I can hear from way across the room. I just want to run over & grab the damn thing out of his hand! :x

I don't have any sensory issues with whispering, but I hate it when people whisper to each other around me. It's so rude! It's a way of excluding all but a select group from the conversation. If you want to have a private conversation, go somewhere private!

Agree totally. Unless I knew the people were really fantastic, so great that I'd just know they were planning to tell me some wonderful news. But that's hypothetical. Still, interesting that it should boil down to trust, isn't it?

Whispering, or low conversation, or anything just out of earshot, I find horribly irritating, yes. Often because I wonder if it's about me (paranoid!), but even if not...it's annoying.

The sound of two people whispering drives me f*****g batshit insane. Gives me a headache.

and most of all I have the extreme urge to brutally beat the faces in of the people whispering.

I agree with the person who said "Speak in a loud clear voice or not at all."

lol :lmao:

anyways, I've always been told I'm incapable of whispering. I always just talk low because I don't like to whisper at all. Other people whispering is really really hard for me to understand so I assumed everyone was the same. Therefore, I would never whisper.

Oh I hate hearing whispers too. It's not always painful but it is VERY annoying. I hate breathing on my own skin, let alone letting anyone else breathe in my ear.

I hate whispering because I get paranoid and think somebody is talking about me at which I was some of the bud of jokes in class. And another reason is that it's hard for me to understand somebody that is whispering. My Auditory processing disorder don't allow me to understand what they are saying.

Wow... Am I really the odd one out? No sensory issues, can usually understand private whispering anyway (Acute hearing, hehehe...), and if they're too far away for me to make it out, then it's probably irrelevant.

I agree. Sitting there in public whispering to someone always strikes me as incredibly childish (not in the good sense). Two adults who want to speak in private should just leave the room.
