Except there is no such thing as true "good" or "evil". One thing I might view as "evil", you would view as "good". Good and evil things are strictly opinion based, unless of course you have a god to tell you what to think. They are all perfect? They all started out as a carbon or sulphur etc element and evolved into perfect beings? Well that sure is astonishing, astronomical to be exact. W/e, mocking that stuff bores me anyway lol

Synth, it depends on whether you believe in relative truth or absolute truth. I believe in absolute truth. I believe that evil is always evil, completely independent of any human's perception of it. And I believe that good is always good, again completely independent of any human's perception of it. :)

nicky Lol ohh I thought you had a neutral position in that..
Sometimes I can't help myself when I read really silly things like that it just comes out.
I have no room for sorrow in these cases either, I'm not a mean person, I like being nice but I'm not sorry.

biblically speaking (not meaning to offend anyone who believes differently), there ARE other intellegent beings in the universe, who were created by God, like us. however, they are all perfect and unfallen beings who would in no way want to come to our crummy world. however, since our world, as the only fallen planet, is the center of the great controversy between good and evil, all those other beings on other worlds have their eyes turned towards us, watching with baited breath to see how everything will play out. :D

Can't we have at least one meaningful science-based discussion without some religionist polluting it with their favourite mythology?

Although this is true, you have to admit it wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't some christian jew or muslim talking about it, you know, the three weeds from the same root. As I've said before, there is more to spirituality than what they give credit for. There are plenty of kinds of spirituality out there that do not conflict with science (which are more nature based), and are (even older)/more abundant (in kinds not followers) than the more popular "well my parents taught it to me" stuff. I'm not advertising for any religion, I'm just stating the facts.

Ok laugh at me if you will but i gotta ask this. Please dont be sarcastic. Is it possible to make contact wit extra terestosial life forms. If so how?

I have for quite a number of years run SETI@home one day we will find our brothers and sisters although it will probably take more than a lifetime to travel the journey home.

i don't understand how it can be automatically assumed that science and religion are in opposition, but since you guys don't want this topic "polluted" by my religious opinion on the matter, then i just won't post in this thread.

What? Actually I was just arguing that some religions don't oppose science.. Oh wait, I forgot about your typical ego, where your religion is the only one in exisatance I should have known >>

Just for the record, my own post about good and evil had nothing to do with religion  . I don't believe in any religion. However, I do have spiritual beliefs, and these are often in conflict with our western scientific paradigm. For example, most discussions of alien contact do not consider the possibility that 'aliens' may well be extradimensional rather than extraterrestrial.

ok, now that i'm not in melt-down mode, i'm going to:
1. apologize for getting angry, because you are intittled to your opinion as well. but, please keep in mind that i am also intittled to my opinion.
2. clerify that my original post was mostly in response to Synth

Quote:
To satisfy peoples spiritual deprivations if you know what I mean...

it sounded to me like he was saying people deny the existance of other life forms because of religious beliefs, and i was just saying that my religious beliefs support the existance of life on other planets.
3. clerify that i was mostly angry because of Fnord's statement

Quote:

coupled with being outright made fun of for my beliefs by Synth, i felt rather attacked. i was indignant that a group of people who are always saying how it's not right for people to be predudice against them because they happen to be on the autism spectrum think that it's ok to be predudice against someone who happens to have an opinion formed from a religious background.

4. let Synth know that i'm aware there are a vast amount of religions in existance, but that doesn't give you any more right to attack me for my religion. you don't see me attacking any of you for your religion or lack thereof. you can believe whatever you want.
5. remind you that this thread asked for peoples opinions on aliens, and i gave my opinion. i have just as much right to post my opinions as the rest of you. now, if the poster of this thread has specifically said something along the lines of "no religion-based posts allowed," i would have just stayed out of it.
6. remind you that i was respectful of the fact that you probably believe differently than me and didn't try to shove my beliefs down your throat, so don't try to shove yours down mine.
7. say, let's all just agree to disagree and get along, ok? :D

Your version of your religion you mean? No christianity I know supports the idea of life on other planets, however it doesn't surprise me that people say it does. It ALWAYS changes with the time, further proving it's faultiness. Not only is what we say ok, but it's also the truth. Only we are the only ones who speak up about it, pointing out the obvious to those who never cared to actually stop and think about it. I never told you what to believe, I only found your little opinions in this thread out of place, so I felt the need to correct it. You and I will never get along, so don't ever expect it.

lol we would scare them away unless they are watching us and if they were watching us and they havent attacked yet it is probably because they can see we are destroying the planet and inevitably destroying ourselves

jeez, and here i am trying to be nice.

my "version of religion" is Seventh-day Adventism, which is the original Christian church, though it was originally just called "Christianity". it wasn't until later that other doctrines entered the church and other denominations came into existance. therefore, my denomination is different from most others, and it does not change. but, i'm not going to go into detail about all of that here, because that is something better left to a different thread (or anyone can feel free to send me a PM if they want to continue any discussion on it), as it has nothing to do with aliens and i have already stated my opinion about that. since i have nothing more to contribute to this thread in regards to life on other planets, i guess i'm done here. feel free to resume the regularly scheduled non-religion based alien discusion.

:hmph: It'd be hard to do, seeing that it's not there in front of you. But if it was here, it'd either have no eyes, or have them somewhere. But just making eye contact with the eyes would probably it.
