A year ago I would've said never, but current financial problems have me thinking otherwise.

I don't plan to do any heavy customer service sort of work if at all possible. It would just be a very bad situation. Plus, some cars make a lot of noise, and those would hurt my ears. Flipping out on the job would be a bad thing, and I don't suppose that wearing earplugs is a very customer-friendly thing to do.

I worked at a Shell station once; I was fired even though my friend worked there at the time because I a) couldn't figure out how to operate the fleet credit card machine and b) smoked and took them at face value when they said I could smoke whenever I wanted, just as long as it was in the back office.

I worked in a couple of gas stations from 1996 to 2001. I never want to do it again.

During that time, I was robbed three times, (once at gunpoint) had a 6 pack of beer, (bottled) smashed over my head, and came away from the experience with an incredibly low opinion of humanity.

I guess you've got to do what you've got to do. Thankfully, I have a decent job and don't have to consider that option. Before I graduated college, working in a gas station would definitely be near the bottom of unskilled jobs I'd take. As people have said, it is dangerous, especially the night shift; speaking of that, the hours are also pretty terrible. There are part-time jobs that are a better fit for people with Asperger's syndrome if you can get one (e.g., librarian).

If things get bad enough. Lots of things I'd rather do.

It'd be a last resort, but I could consider it.

I have worked a lot of menial jobs in my time, and it seems like...the more menial it is, the more likely I am to be fired for not "getting" something about it. People like me who overthink things and have poor coordination in the physical world probably need college degrees. :nerdy:

I worked at a small gas station (Holland) and it was effin' awesome. Eat what you want for free, read some magazines..only i have problems with math ( its called dyscalculie in dutch but I dont know the english word :? ) so I would frequently give back either too much or too little change :)
And when I had to fill up cars I often forgot how much they wanted to put in the car..
Once a woman wanted only 20 euros (bout 50 bucks/15quid/4000forint) and i filled it up to 60. I cud laugh about it but she didnt :)) If u have nice colleagues it's all good. Tho working at a bigger station wud seem more dangerous, I only had a couple of drive-off's (without paying) no robberies or something.
